R27 track car build- engine refresh time.

Hey my fist post on here so thought I may aswell start a progress thread. I just got this shell rebuild and possibly use as a track car as a bit of a demo car. I have a small business. Prototype Motorsport and in a nut shell it's mainly shell preperation.so the shell is going to be mint.

what is a cup shell worth with cage in it. It has a few battle scars needs a rear panel, near side sill could do with been replaced to apart from that it's just a freshen up. I know what I paid for it but I'd like someone more clues up than me.

Jobs on the list to do this year as as fallows.

stip clean the shell
build a jig for it to sit on
remove cage
new rear panel
new sill
fit air jack system
all bodywork done
decide to convert it to rhd or not
prep and paint the shell inside outside underneath

once i I get to that point I'll have a good idea what route I'm going down with the shell. Either 197 or megane turbo. If I decide to keep it al all at this point we will just have to see. One thing is fore sure by the end of the year the shell will be immaculate

We're all jealous of a Cup Racer and i for one; would love to keep up with your progress.

Don't know why my post only posted half. Any way generally on with body work and cage comning out to be rhd converted.

Also just managed to douche a cup racer dash so will be moulding it and then making more to chop up and make them into rhd cup racer dashes so that should be january sorted :tonguewink:

I went to see this when it was on eBay last year, Lee Pattisons old car.

Make a nice project car that, good base and no rot issues.

So I thought id upload a pic of the dash that should be deliverd by end of week. Once moulded I'll put this back up for sale as I don't want to cut up a genuine item.

Cup dash should be deliverd tomorow and I picked up a base model bootlid in great condition from my local break yard

Couple of questions there's a few base models in the yard that are perfect for robbing bits from so going to take headlights, rear lights, slam panel etc etc basic things like this. Now 2 main questions are I'm thinking bout getting the front subframe and rear beam if there the same apart from what's bolted to them ?

All the panels (if three door) are the same and the slam panel, lights etc will all be of use but the rear beam is different, i think it's shorter or will give you a shorter wheelbase.
I had a front subframe from a 1.2 and iirc it was not quite right for the job, I think the part number for the front frame is the same as a megane 225 and I bought one of those, it fitted up correctly and was fine with the lower arms but I took mine off when I got a cup frame.

Are you making a new bonnet? reason I ask is I have a carbon bonnet (carbon skin on a fibreglass frame) and it's no lighter than an alliminium standard bonnet.

Interesting. And probably not surprising....

I bet it's loads better looking in the eye-candy department though !!

Yes every panel will be in carbon. That's the main aim of the project. Inc quarter panels only choice I'm stuck on is rs front end swap.

The reason your bonnet will be heavier is because it will be a let way up and polyester. While I build the moulds (bonnet roof tailgate) I'm also building a oven to bake my parts. I can garentee you what ever the bonnet weights I'll have somthing lighter.

I'll get it all panneled up and go through the work from there.

And thanks for the info on the base models I'll go rob what I need then.get some lights too.

Full carbon bodied mk3, nuts!!!

Will you be making any parts after for order and any idea roughly what the parts would cost? Boot and Bonnet I'm thinking, if properly pre-preg carbon skin and carbon frame etc.

cheers
