wired hatch

There is a small hatch under my centre console behind the cup holders and wondered if someone could shed some light on what the wired plug is behind it? Somethin to do with the ecu?

Obd2 port, for diagnostics and used when mapping. All cars after a certain year (2001i think) has to have one fitted to car.
