Im starting to hear a squeeking noise when I turn the steering wheel. Especially when im maneuvering or parking at slow speed. Sounds like its coming from under the bonnet rather then in the cabin. HELP?
Yeah, as Jimmy has said I'd reckon it would be ball joint related. Just had mine sorted this weekend and that is what was happening, only at slow speeds/when maneuvering. Looking at around £150-£200 per side, it might only be one but both of mine needed replacing. Where are you based ?

I've been involved in this conversation before.......
Not really knowing how long it takes or having read a timescale; I can't see how anyone can make money at this price (Also not knowing trade price on a bottom ball joint).
What i do know is a BBJ sells for around £70-£80. So even if trade is £50.....that leaves around £125 for labour. That's 3 hours with my highly skilled and trusted independant. And is presuming you get no issues whatsoever regarding seized bolts, or have a major head-ache removing the BBJ without damaging the hub etc etc.
To expose and then remove the whole hub, heat it up, press out the BBJ, freeze the new BBJ going in, press or 'fit' new BBJ in place and then fit hub and all associated parts in 3 hours sounds a rush to me. Then again im not a car mechanic.
Al i can say is - with the cost of a new hub, and the importance of the fit of the new BBJ.....its not a job i'd want to be rushing or paying someone to rush........
I have to agree with Shuv on this one - it's one of those jobs that seems to be very specialist-specific, i.e. I imagine that in skilled hands who know what they're doing and have done many of them, they can do it within a reduced timescale without affecting quality of work, hence the reduced rate. I do know that Bolsover CC started this deal thanks to an ex-member of the forum - they have clearly honoured it since, presumably because they get a lot of business from it.
A non-specialist garage may see the whole thing as a bit of a headache to do, which is why they end up buying the whole assembly for a much larger overall cost.

Also there is sometimes like notchiness felt in steering wheel. My car was in mot 2 weeks ago and they said hub ball joints were absolutely fine. So now the beef:
Can ball joints be worn/bad even they pass mot check, but they make squeeking or grinding sound which you are able to feel through steering.

Mine passed mot in May 2016 with some movement, but they weren't making any noise at that point.. In December 2016 one side developed a really bad noise. When I've just had them replaced they had a ridiculous amount of movement in them and I've only done 4000 miles since my mot so there must have been quite a bit of movement when it passed back in May

Did you feel anything odd in steering wheel when rotating lock to lock, or was it just that squeeking sound why you replaced ball joints? My car has done 103000km / 65000miles still original ball joints.

I wouldn't say I felt anything odd really, however the noise was really bad when I was going lock to lock so I was always focussed on that.
I took it to my mechanic when the noise started and he diagnosed that it was the balljoints.
My car had just hit 70000miles when I had mine done, had the drivers side track rod end done too as that had a lot of movement.
