Ross's Supercharged AG RS200

Hi All

Bought this in october, i come from a long line of performance cars but never really a track specific car for many years (2007) I have owned some very high performance cars in my time usually with a supercharger that they shouldn't have (rs4 supercharged, e46 m3 supercharged, mg zs supercharged) most recently i had a rs4 supercharged (620 bhp) but it just wasn't fun these are second / third cars to me so rarely used.

I wanted something that i could take to track and have a good crack with it, a friend had a clio 200 and i nearly bought it but knew after reading clio 197 that i would want more power very quickly. I saw this car and Pm'd the owner about some details, it turns out it was perhaps possible to buy and the rest is a big hole in the bank...

I could of bought much more sorted cars (r26 turbo conversion cars) for less money, and to be honest maybe a fool and his money and all, but i just didn't want to ruin the chassis and drive that Renault had created with the clio, high reving fairly low torque engine makes for a good track car, the turbo conversions are all great but i just dont buy into the sound and while it may be faster its not always about every last tenth

A bit of this is stolen from the previous owners thread but here she is and spec

Since i have owned it i had to install a higher seat mount as i am a short ass, fitted a new manifold due to old one blowing and dont not much else (it didn't need it)

One thing with this car is, its hard to show how clean it really is. Its immaculate and a credit to the former keepers

I have taken it to Bedford and had a good crack with a v12 Ferrari allbeit on road tyres (he was behind) it really is a well sorted motor that is hard to think what you could have more fun it. I found along the huge back straight when i reached for 6th i needed more power for now this thing is unreal

it throws a flame every gearchange

Very awesome car man, well done! I thought about the supercharger route but there’s so few AG 200s I wanted to keep mine NA

Wow! Just needs those black diamonds changed for silver & it'll be awesome. Until then it's great, but not awesome! :smirk: You do know I am jesting (maybe) but woah! Supercharging is the way to go! Keep the n/a need to rev, but amplify it! I could only dream of something like this & AG too:grinning:! Love the wheels. I'm a shorty too (28" inside leg) & I've never seen the reason to sit seats low. Great car, don't spoil it!

I've seen this car in the flesh and it is really clean, also seen it at Blyton Park once and it sounded insane! My car is going for a supercharger to be fitted at the start of December! Can't F**king wait now!

You have made a great choice I never drove a standard one but the power the charger has makes it a very complete car and yes there will be quicker you can run from the lack of torque however unless a straight is half a mile long it’s grand

Early morning this morning currently at brands but I do expect to have a issue with noise

There's so many meg conversions popping up everywhere and want something different! How did brands go with noise? I will probably have to book it in to get another silencer fitted as i can imagine it's quite a bit louder on full chat.

There is, I am afraid i dont know enough to talk about how they drive etc all i know is drivability. Dannys 200 was a contender but in the end i spent big and when a different route. I have never had a track car really and done perhaps 5 track days in my time and while i have done karting in that time my confidence is low and I do not know the car that well so its a track day at a time. Never done brands fyi

Today was ok, wet and greasy on arrival, sat in the briefing looking around, so many cars on slicks, so many cars came out of posh transporters etc and im thinking jeez going to be shown up here. I left it a hour and a half for the track to clean up a bit and headed out it was still greasy and i was on R888's (its all i took) a line started to clear and i was getting more and more confident although my lines needed work as did knowing when to plant the power (you really need to push the diff) something I have not done much before.

Anyhow did a 25 min session came in and 5 mins later the steward came up to me and said came in cause you got black flagged? erm nope? no flags here. Yes you got black flagged at druids he said, ok, he said you need to change it or change the sound. As such i knew it was going to be as loud or louder because the track was drying and I was going faster. So i packed it up and went home.

I checked my video footage and no black flag was waved at me at all, but i dont dispute the noise although i am sure others were louder.

so thats 95db at brands and 92 db at bedford, I defo need to drop it 5 db

Supercharged power is fun, as I say i am so green to it all I am letting cars past that perhaps shouldn't be but it will come in time. The extra power is well worthwhile but dont expect to set the world alight its not double the speed in places just a few mph here and there

Beautiful car, having owned my Clio for only 6 months I can see another 60% horsepower and 40% torque useful and as you say, completes it a bit. I like the fact itll stay revvy and you still need to be getting the most out of it. I'm pretty the modify the head, do you know where peak power is?

Brilliant mate, looks fantastic and can imagine that it's great fun to drive!

Without sounding daft, what are the differences in terms of performance between owners who go down the meg conversion route vs the supercharged option? Do they both require the same degree of work/modification, and in terms of your spec list I'm guessing that as a result of supercharging you then require upgrades to certain parts so they function under the increased power/stress?

Sorry for the 'basic' questions, interested to hear more, but can't say that I have a great deal of engine/mechanical knowledge!

Cheers

Spent the afternoon giving it a clean, Probably been on track 2 hours since i have had it and towing it behind my range rover yesterday in the mist caused a lot of filth down the sides and on the front. Wish i had a enclosed trailer

Took the wheels of and gave each arch a good wash, wheels inside and out and gave the outside a clean and wax. You can see in the winter i cant take the car any further than the concrete in my yard, its just grim.

I must say this is the cleanest car i have ever owned a credit to the former keepers, there are some tar spots i should have removed first but i didn't have time. Not sure if i will do another track day before the new year so will be put away for now. I need to look through the receipts work out what oil has been used in the past also what pads to buy so i have spares.
