Remap raised red line?

So I had the car mapped yesterday and it feels great, power feels smother but climbs the revs faster however I noticed I was changing before the beep which seemed odd so I deliberately watched the rev counter as it got round that way and now it doesn't beep until it goes 7500 and redlined 250rpm later.

What I'm worried is that it nows out excessive strain on the engine an gearbox and looking at the power graph the power drops off alot after 7250 anyway so is there any point it being higher?

Thanks

raising the limiter is what a few remaps do now, they should really give you the choice.
just change gear before then. you should really be red lining all the time anyways.

After Matt @ TDF had done mine he explained that the rev limiter would be raised and the shift light on my 197 has been adjusted to suit. I used to find my self shifting way before the redline......but not anymore. Now it will go to about 7400 and instead of you feeling the car dropping away in power, it goes there and all the way there.

If you look at the graphs from TDF in my progress thread here: http://www.clio197.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6055&page=3

You can see that the third graph the comparison from before the map and after it. It shows a much healthier top end, this is certainly reflected in the way the engine feels in that part of the rev range. As for longterm effects, TDF know their stuff and assured me they were not doing anything stupid.

Not that i tend to go around redlining everywhere thats just un-healthy, although all reports i have read on these engines suggest they just laugh in the face of it.

No point having it higher if I won't use it feels and sounds great up to the beep. I don't redline it that often was merely to see where the red line was.

Thanks Dan  at least it's been said it's ok  similar to the graph my car put out in terms of the power slowing dropping off towards the redline. It is massive fun was just concerned about the cars health!

Sounds good to me. Always think the limiter is too low on my 197. Especially second gear.

A higher rev limit will allow you to hold a gear longer, for instance between two corners where it isnt worth changing gear but where you'd ordinarily be hitting the oem limiter, so although the power drop is there, the extra rpm is useful if used correctly

....if you re-map, I would've thought you need to inform insurers. But in reality would they find out in the event of a claim?

Raising the limiter is fine, if it had ben given a extra 2k Id be worried but not 250. A good mapper wouldnt do it if they weren't confident. Matt @ TDF moved the limiter on our 182 when he remapped that

Its always worth declaring mods on insurance mate. They'll do anything to get out of paying out. If they were to come on here and see that it was modified but not insured, you'd be up that creek without a paddle.

It is all declared
Was just wondering as now I'm going into the red on the rev counter didnt want it to do damage that's all  I trust the company but they are Audi/vag specialists so thought best to ask.
