Megane Trophy

What you say is correct. However the R26R holds its value because its value was low to begin with. It was never a £46k car or whatever this dealer is asking. The rest of the cars you've mentioned are going up because they are classics, still we are talking about £5k region, not £45k.

We shouldn't compare RenaultSports with the special ford models. Cossies are out of the question as they have appreciated massively, however they are still cheaper than £46K and that is after the appreciation having kicked in. Again, their list price (adjusted for inflation) was never even that high to begin with. And that is after 20 years...

Pay £46k and wait for 20+ years to get any - doubtful I might say - returns sounds like a bad investment to me that's why I don't think anyone buys Renault Sport cars thinking that way. At the end of the day the competition nowadays is so big that I doubt these cars are going to even be considered future specials. Trophy R was only known because it broke the ring record, that was what the marketing was all about, then Honda came by to break it after a few months so my question is, what will the Renault be remembered for? A hatchback with no rear seats, fancy dampers (which are shared with the mainstream model) and a cage keeping the ring record for a few months?

M3s, quattros, Deltas, cosworths have all racing history hence their appreciation to the eye of the true petrolhead. The megane trophy is just a stripped out megane. It will never play in the same category as the aforementioned bad boys..

Yes its an expensive Renault but for the price you can play with some much more expensive metal. Will it hold value, maybe, maybe not. Yes, the higher price tag opens up more options to consider, however special Renaultsports don't depreciate as quick as others - all depends what the demand is like. But as Yiannis rightly points out, there is alot more competition around now days so there is a good choice to be had for your money.

I can recall when the car was released at Goodwood - I arrived very early to avoid queing and even by the time I got there the Trophy R had already sold out - that would suggest their certainly is a demand. If the demand is still there in the near future, only time will tell.

Believe it or not that's still negative equity, and that's well over priced, escort cosworths vary from about £13000-£25000 ATM but whatever lol

Dru fair comment but appreciation doesn't always mean that you are getting more money than you originally paid for (adjusted for inflation or not). When a price of a new car drops right after you left the dealer and then rises up again at some point in the future this is appreciation. The car lost value to begin with but then gained again.

Basic manual 993s are currently appreciating, used to be around £15k (even less than that in some cases) and they are now £30K+. £30k might be less than the inflation adjusted list price 25 years ago but that doesn't mean that 993s are not appreciating.

Yeah who cares about value if your using it properly you will get your money's worth a hundred times over

I think the point is for the money you could get a much more epic drivers car. Like I said before 46k is used proper porche money

Some good knowledge on this thread boys. Yes it's nuts how certain cars have crept up in value massively. Even fiesta rs's now are becoming very expensive. I saw this Megane on ph and yes it's expensive but if someone wants one it'll sell. Personally I think the r26r's are over priced now for what they offer performance wise.

I'd much rather spend £46k on 2010 GTR or a 911 GT3 or 2-3 R26.r's, I still don't understand how they can justify the price tag regardless of how many there are in the UK.
You could buy a 265 and upgrade it to a higher spec for way less than the Trophy.

Yes but that's used. Also try pricing up new brakes/tyres for a porsche compared to a megane....

plenty of epic cars at the price but its the up keep of said cars....secondhand gtr wait until it needs a service or something goes wrong (and they do!!)

Yeah go on youtube and type in price of running nissan gtr, or something along them lines. Crazy sorts of money.

Infact pretty sure someone on here bought a 197 as a cheap track toy as his GTR eats brake discs which were as much a pop as the 197.

Exactly! The megane might be bought by someone that has a hypercar that wouldn't think twice at buying it to abuse on track.

Think its atleast 3K a service for a GTR. If a gearbox goes out of warranty then that's over 10K (cant remember the figure anymore)

What kind of service costs you 3k? Plenty of places out there that service the GTR for less than 300 quid.
