Mattie's FF Track Car

Cheers Chris

That's awesome!

Where did you get your tow bar from?

Tow bar?? Or tow strap??
Strap was from ebay, and I got a adaptor from Will on here

Cheers Daz, I got them done at a local engine specialist so I didn't have to send them off to k-tec and be without. Was a slight change in the low revs which with a RR showed it was adding more fuel at low revs.

Oh, it doesn't have a tow bar though!

Seen as I changed the front brake setup I thought some 'Racing' brake fluid may be necessary just incase I boiled the standard fluid.
Went for Motul 600 considered 660 but couldn't justify £5 extra for 12'C

Considering doing this myself, but not sure atm

Picked up a Cup suspension set up from George with the intention to use the shocks only and get custom springs to track spec and Lil extra lowering.

Rear old vs new

I noticed that the Cup shock was 20mm shorter than the FF shock

Which can also be seen here, where the FF shock lined up and the Cup needed the jack to raise the arm

I measured the ride height before and after and there is a 20mm difference.
Just need to decide how much more lower to go!!

are both shocks fully extended in those pics??

Plus springs decide ride height.

interesting none the less tho!

^^ This .

Undoing the shock at the rear beam will always result in beam drop.

Cant see the damper itself being shorter as FMP says perhaps extension was to blame .

The cup dampers will be just stiffer to allow for the lower springs not to compress fully under extream load etc .

As for lowering it more given that the damper is probably nearly on its knee's with the cup springs i would seriously consider some coilovers . for the price of custom springs i would imagine add a few £100 and you could have a set.

Possibly so, I did have a jack resting under the rear beam to stop it from falling tho so that didn't move!

I've never been a fan of coilovers, more for show, unless you buy the 2k all singing which i couldn't justify.

Anyway the Cup is only like 7mm lower anyway so I doubt the shocks will be on there knees, seen as people do put 35/40mm springs in.
All the manufactured springs all say there good compromise with track and comfort, I don't need comfort so custom ones with track in mind and not comfort looks better option.

Think your missing the point .

If the dampers are produced to handle a 20% lower spring at 80% damping ability

Then reducing the spring by a further say 20% is only going to have a negative effect on the damping ability of the shock as for example the shock will already be say 40% compressed thus leaving minimal ability to dampen as it should .

hope this makes sense either way a budget set of v1's of a used set of v3's would be the way forward . IMO

Stick some H&Rs on, save some money and stop worrying.

I've been running H&Rs and Cup Dampers for almost a year now including track use, with ZERO problems.

Rides well, stiffer than FF setup obviously but it's not unbearable. Handling is predicatble as it should be, no bottoming out etc..

EDIT - Mattie, if you're over towards Manchester at all in the near future then let me know and I'll gladly take you for a spin in mine.

Haha, Cheers Will  looks like a good idea with the H&R's

I might be looking at a car in Radcliffe soon! Not sure if that's near ya, I know it's Manchester lol

Hahaha well it's about halfway between here (Altrincham) and Bradford!!!

It's fake Manchester, just like Altrincham is, but nobody knows where they are unless you say near Manchester.
