LY200 - too loud or blow up again, taking bets!

Rich, coming with us to the Alps this year mate? It will be the perfect place to try out your resurrected beast lol!

I better get brakedown!! Yeah could do, any details? My brother lives the other side of the alps in northern Italy, he's got a Z4M so could meet for a hoon!

That would be awesome:smile: 2-11th of Sept, doing Germany, Italy and Austria. There is gonna be a v6 exige from the UK, meeting an elise s2 in Germany, Tamas with his Clio and a mate of his with a supercharged gt86. Should be fun:smile:

@flasci patience is a bliss my friend. book your dates just to be sure:smile:

Cheers mate
all we need to know, when you reach the Italian/austrian alps, where we will join your group! But I am sure you will work it out: roads, rooms, beers

Sounds cool, I've been thinking a lot about doing a driving tour recently as I've started watching a few youtube channels that do that sort of thing, seems like a pretty cool idea.
How many miles do you think you cover and how organised do you need to be with hotels and ferries/tunnel?

Just ordered the new engine block and pistons set too.

Everything is set prior to departing by my German mate. (Germans right?? Lol)
He is a cyclist and he does all those roads by bike, he knows his way around there inside out. He sorts out the roads and way points on a daily basis and the hotels, he then does the itns by day and send them to us. So basically what we do is to load them on tomtoms, select day one and drive.

Hotels are prebooked of course but not paid, we pay as we check out. The only thing we need to do is book the crossing. Nice and easy.

Mileage wise, around 2,500-2,700. We tend to not do more than 200 miles per day (apart from first and last day) because we do lots of breaks for coffee, pictures, food etc.

Come on, you know you want to!!

Sounds awesome and that's not obscene mileage at all (these cars are for driving anyway!). Suppose that must be about the best part of £2k all in?

Around £2k excluding of course car's maintenance before and after:smile:

Less than a tank per day (apart from first and final day of course) so consider around £700-£800 for petrol depending prices, £150 toll charges, £170 crossing, £450 for hotels including breakfast and parking of course and spending money which always depends on the individual:smile:

Expensive trip but it's so worth it..

See how the funds look nearer the time, I'll pre-emptively book that time off anyway.

Been messing in Photoshop... couple of ideas for when it breathes again:

Picked the new block up, not bad for £624 from Renault. Came with a few extras I wasn't expecting like oil jet squirter's so that's saved £60ish.

Car goes to Tech 1 on Monday.... just be a delay whilst the head is sent away to be worked.

not a bad price at all for that :book:

Exactly, if I'd known I could get it all new so cheap I'd have plumped straight for this route, ah well... you live and learn (or not seemingly is the case with me!)

What Throttle bodies having? Did buy that other engine?

No as it worked out better to buy a new block and stuff from Renault, I'd have been throwing away/selling on a fair amount of that other engine so pointless in the end. That engine is still a good deal though if someone's dropped a valve and got a knackered head, or crank is screwed etc.

ITB's, currently toying between Jenvey and AT. Mitch at Proline can do me a nice Jenvey manifold, but it's a question then of throttle control (cable or DBW). Swapping to a cable is a pain as there are no direct fit pedals (cup racer is lhd and requires a fair effort), and no bulkhead hole for a cable. Given how obsessive I am with doing things right, I just know the pedal mounting and positioning will be a subsequent ballache before I'm pleased. You'll need to ensure you have the right pivot points for getting WOT, as well as having enough travel and that it's linear, lastly and just as crucial a study and comfortable placement!! So I want DBW basically because I can address all those pedal problems...by not changing it  However the Jenvey DBW unit is £600 which is a hell of a lot, and the main issue with that is DBW units do fail, so that sort of cost is too high for a potentially consumable item. Imagine spending £1200 or £1800 on 2 or 3 DBW units ffs!

So AT bodies, the main advantage with AT is I've approached them to making a DBW billet housing for the F4R kit and they have been very responsive to the idea. Potentially using the stock DBW internals or I've suggested the MZR DBW unit as used by the BBR 225 kits. This is because they already have worked this DBW out for positioning and voltage scaling, also the MZR unit can be stripped easily because in OEM form it's rivited to the metal housing, whereas I haven't got a clue how you strip the Renault item - it's all sealed up with no obvious way to remove the actuator from the metal TB??
So DBW with AT potentially means plug and play fitment ITB's at last, if it's the MZR DBW item then simply swap the 6 pin TPS/DBW plug on the Renault loom to suit to (also a 6 pin so easy peasy). Could even make a very small 3cm patch cable to change the plug terminations to suit and then it would be p'n'p.

I give up, I literally ****ing give up.....

forged-pistons-768x432.jpg

These were forged ****ing pistons, so the amount of det going on has been A LOT! Chunks missing ffs!

The head is trashed, the valves are ****ed. There is nothing left really from a what ~£5000 forged engine build!

If anyone knows of a standard engine and box for sale let me know, because it's going back to stock and off my ****ing drive.

bloody hell how did that happen? what on earth? And how come the engine was still running, the way it was running anyway?

**** man this is nasty, so sorry to hear this..

Have you sold the honda?

Apparently it wouldn't turn over by hand, so that piston must be tight as a nun in the bore!

It's detonation which is **** mapping basically, Specialist Components who mapped it :whatever:

Nah Honda is still here, I joked that now he would have to fit it but there was no take. I will ask flat out, but I'm sick of it all tbh.
Find a chassis for the K20, or just sell and add to a car fund. Such a shame GT86's are too slow :\
