just a quick question

my mate and i want our cars remapped and both cars have the same modifications but my car is a 200 and hers is a 197
would the map from ktec be suitable for both cars or just the one the original map was taken from?

If your talking the remote box then it can only be used on one car and needs to be reset which iirc is almost the price of it again.

thats the thing im talking about

and this is what they say about loading it more than once

Q: Can you return your vehicle to standard and swap between maps?
A: Yes, with RenFlash you can load your tuned file or indeed your standard file as many times as you like. If for any reason you need to return your vehicle to factory settings you can upload your original file in exactly the same way as a tuned file.

its just really will the 200 map be compatible with the 197 map?

I'm fairly certain it will be locked to the first car it's used on, so you won't be able to upload the map to 2 cars. Either that or you'll need to purchase a second map for the other car at least.

but the map is a transferable file is it not? i mean if you can use it as much times as you like how would they lock it to a specific car?

the ecu on the 200 and 197 are the same tho are they not?

mapping confuses me:worried:

The ECUs are physically the same but the maps they contain are not. There are a fair few differences between the way a 197 and a 200 drives. The 200 has more torque and is nicer to drive esp in every day situations as a result.

And yes KTec will lock the remap to one car. If not they'd never make any money.

the software/map within the ecu has checksums which specific to that ecu, when mapping, the new map has to be matched to these checksums via specialised equipment before the map is set out/downloaded to the ecu. so even if you got the reflash unit unlocked from the first car and locked it to a second car, the map from the first car will be useless as the checksums in the map file will be different. it will download but then the car will not run at all. by the way software checksums and unit locking are both different things.

Could just buy two RStuners from fastchip.nl for similar money? no idea how they compare.

K-Tec offer a 'custom' map though. You can tell them you have a decat exhaust for instance and they will alter the map to suit (I think).

How are you getting on with the RSTuner Chris? Btw have you dropped the charger off? I only just remembered and haven't checked around the front of the house lol!

Just wish I had bought it earlier.
