GW 200 detail - pic heavy

Hi Folks,

I've posted this over on detailing world so though i would throw it up here too

This is my first post of some pics of my 200 in Glacier White. Thanks to the council coating all our roads in tar and chips the boy was really in need of a detail. I'd put a thread up in the chat section of DW and received lots of good advice and encouragement following some previous detailing escapades that didn't come out quite right.

first things first this morning, get some fuel in the tank for a big day. The eggs stuck though, so it wasn't a great start!

The weather looked changeable, which for a Scottish summer translates roughly as "it'll have to do"

and then, right on time

So, kit all out and ready to go, it was time to start in earnest. AG insect remover sprayed on the front surfaces following a thorough rinse.

Door shuts, boot, wheels and arches up next with a mini 2BM and a microfibre noodle mitt.

Badges and vents etc cleaned with 10:1 Flash APC mix and a soft brush

Wheels had previously been treated with Bilberry and a few coats of Poorboys wheel sealant so they were pretty good. A 10:1 Bilberry mix and the EZ detail brush took care of the wheels

So far so good. Following another rinse it was time to break out the 2BM with some 20L buckets, Dodo Juice Sour Power shampoo and the brilliant Wookie washmitt. That thing really soaks up suds!

Next up was the tar buster solution - Autosmart Tardis. Sprayed on, rinsed, resprayed and wiped off the worst of it. A couple of before and afters

after

not the easiest stuff to work with but it did the business when it came to tar spots. Looking better already

I had planned to clay as there was still some contaminants on the paint, but it was a bit breezy and stuff was flying around so i decided against it. I'll have to attempt clay in the future!
So, next new toy in the detailing cabinet - Werkstat Acrylic Prime

Applied gently with an MF pad and took a small amount of dirt out of the paint. Still a few contaminants there but a clay bar should take care of them in the future and i wasn't wanting to push too hard with the werkstat stuff.

Next up, 2 coats of this

it really is bizarre stuff to work with, a single spray of a this on an MF does a whole panel. It was hard at first to be so frugal but i stuck with it and i'm pretty pleased with the finish.

Finally, tyres were dressed with Megs Tyre Endurance gel, exhaust tips done with Megs metal Polysh and a coat of Werkstat Glos to finish.

Time for a well earned beer!

Quite happy with the results to be honest. Its far from perfect, there are some swirls there already and there are contaminants on the paint that need removed by clay, but i feel a lot happier with working on the car now and was very glad to get rid of all that horrible tar!

Some final shots below, i think the finish was shown off best out of direct sunlight.
