Cam belt - What's a good price??

Evening all,
My 197 is 5 years old now with 35,000 on the clock so is due a cam belt change sometime very soon. I've rang around several places and been told different things everywhere I call and a huge range in prices. I'm curious as to what other people have paid so I know I'm not getting ripped off. Below is what I have been quoted so far...

Renault Leicester - £609 including all pulleys and aux belts. Water pump is not included and if it's required to be changed it will cost extra but not told how much.

Renault Loughborough - £765 but can do a deal at £599 - Includes all belts and pulleys. Water pump is not included and if it's required to be changed it's an extra £300.

Goscote Servies (Renault Specialists) - £811 including belts/pulleys, water pump an additional £100 if required.

Finally, BTM in Birmingham - £490 including all belts, pulleys and water pump and 12 months Renault warranty.

When speaking with the chap on the phone he said the water pump will need to be changed regardless. But at this price its the best I've had and he sounded very knowledgeable and I've heard really good things about him so the job is his at the moment.

Has anyone else had a better quote or anywhere they'd recommend? I'm from Leicester so anywhere in the Midlands really, I've been told about a place in Nottingham which I'll be checking out tomorrow. I'm just a bit frustrated with the pricing of some places..

Thanks Matt

Alright mate, from what I have read elsewhere prices do vary alot - I personally know an ex Renault dealership mechanic and got it done off him as a govy job, very fortunate.

I think it depends what you want, personally my car is my pride and joy and condition means more than service history being stamped from a dealership (after warranty expired) they seem to employ almost anyone nowadays.

I got my belt, pulleys and waterpump changed at the time (when it was removed it had slight signs of wear) and thought may aswell while paying for labour.

If dealership history doesn't mean as much to you - see about your nearest local renault specialist - BTM are popular - and Fred has a great reputation - had friends travel to have work performed http://www.btmperformance.com/

Probably end up paying less than your quotes above, and have your car looked after, with attention to detail - get a quote from KTEC too - http://www.k-tecracing.com/workshop.asp

Not saying avoid all dealerships, because some are good, just shop around and play them off each other - all want your business.

Yeah I'm going with BTM at the minute. I'm not fussed about Renault stamps in my service book as it means very little to me. I'll always go where I can get the best job done.
The main Renault dealers both told me different things so not even bothering with them and Gostcote services are having a laugh.
I would check out KTEC but aren't they based in Devon? (I think)

I don't want to put the cam belt off any longer as I feel I'll start pushing my luck with it, just want it sorted and out of the way so I can have piece of mind

a dealer wants an extra "£300" for a water pump change on top of the belt job.....TOTAL RIPP OFF THEY NEED REPORTING FOR THAT!!!!!

lets put it this way i got the full monty done on mine and got change from £500 from a renault dealer :thumbup1:

Well I already concluded that Renault are full of s***
I've rang a guy in Nottingham this morning and he can do the job, all belts, pulleys and pump for £440 which I'm over the moon about. He was recommended to me by someone on this site so sure he'll do a really good job, again like Fred at BTM he's very knowledgeable and really helpful but is a lot closer to where I live
