Brake disks and pads

Hi,

Sorry if this has been covered hundreds of times before but I can't find it.

I've fallen in love with my 197 again and decided I want to do some track days, can someone please recomend the best disk and brake pad setup available. (I have the brembos)

Many thanks

Ryan

Just a quick pointer, they all have Brembos.

Ryan there must be fifty threads about this and there was at least one big one recently!!!

You will get at least fifty different opinions/answers to this question!!!

Search for "Brakes Trackday" using the search at the top of the screen.

Just stick with OEM discs, standard pads are fine also just don't stay out too long. There are a million options for pads Ferodo DS2500s are popular, they bight a bit harder and fade less quickly but there are lots of other options.

Honesty? Just stick with OEM if it's the first time out on track with it.

My standard brake disks are badly in need of replacing hence why I'm thinking of upgrading. You reckon it's worth going for oem still or upgrading?

Complete noob when it comes to track days? Not my scene at all but I've been converted

Standard parts will be more than adequate enough to get you into trackdays. Get booked on and enjoy yourself, see if it's your thing and get used to the feel of the car in that environment before spending any money on parts. They're very capable cars and you might find that you like the feel of the standard setup, unless you are cooking the components then there's no point upgrading really.

I've changed my hoses to HEL braided items and I use a higher spec' brake fluid but my Pads and Discs are just the "normal" Brembo/Ferodo ones that come as standard. I've never had an issue with this setup, but everyone will drive differently and cause differing amounts of heat or/and wear. It all comes down to personal preference really.

That makes sense to me Willis, my cars in for a service at the start of next month with renault so I'll get them to change the brakes and pads aswell. Will be my first trackday so I will be pretty poor, it'll be at Castle Combe which I've been told is a power circuit so not ideal for the 197. Can't wait though, should be a lot of fun.

Much better than driving around with my car 1cm of the ground which was my original plan, I'll invest in a mk3 golf in the future for that.

Get ready to be bent over by Renault for the discs and pads! They will set you back a pretty penny!

How much have they quoted for the service? Are there no Renault specialists in your area?

Price for the service at SJ cook and sons renault is £155. There a renault sport specialist if that makes a difference.

If they charge way too much I'll buy them seperate and get an independent mechanic to fit them, don't trust myself to do it right.
