Air-con not very cold

I had the air con re-gassed recently but it is still only slightly colder than when it's off. What is the next thing I should check?

Do you think the gas has leaked out? Is there any way to test?

Not sure, I just know it is located in the lower grill and liable to stone chips.

It is a trait of the 197 - mine never worked properly, gave up re-gassing it lol! They couldn't find any holes in it in the end either :s

they are poor systems

if the gas has escaped the system will not work at all - listen for the compressor "clicking" on when the engine is running and a/c is on!

did they just put some gas in or did they actually test the pressure etc when it was working?

Had mine regassed a couple of weeks ago but it was still blowing out 30c air at me after the regas, The guy told me that there was more gas than should of been in the system. So they took it all out and put the right amount back in and it was still blowing out 30c.

I had a mobile air con guy round today and he checked the power to the compressor and it is getting power so we think its the compressor.

Would it work with my 197? Any other parts I should get to get it fitted, Should I change the belt at the same time?

I had the system emptied and refilled. Could only get about 80% of the amount of gas Renault recommend so there may be a blockage somewhere. My condenser looks like its been in a war zone but air con is working. Just not cold enough but colder than air con off.

i hear a dry rasping sound when the air con is on. It's not there when just the fan us on.

I got same problem. Got hole in it renault want £350 for a new one. Will have to wait as dont use any how. May look into putting some sort of mesh over it when get a new one

if there is a blockage the system test should show it up and the pressures will be wrong on the different sides of the compressor

My manages to cool the cabin but not enough on a hot days with +30 deg.
Some of my previous cars were able to freeze the windshield, Clio is a bit shiny on this matter..
Was planning to visit AC specialist to make a service...

Don't think it's the best air con system in these clios!! It would show up on the air con machine a leak, but if you are getting it checked or re-gassed you can get a dye put in then check for leaks with the air con system on using the correct glasses.

I took my 200 to be re gassed and checked in march, its been great since and does what you'd expect A/C to do. I'm guessing the 197 system is the same, but our 197 gets nowhere near as cold, it has also been checked and is problem free.

I've been driving round wonderin whether it was just my air con or a common problem.

AC was recently re-gassed before purchase but it still feels like someone's attached a hand-held fan behind the vents when it's on.
