220T Trophy Test drive

Tory of the Month
Well today clio 200 went in for a service at rawlinsons ren sport specialists and i got the chance to test drive a 220 trophy, first impressions the looks are a real grower. Big 18 inch wheels hit you straight in the face and with very low profile tires. Once inside the standard non leather seats hug you in a sturdy fasion and a nice big chunky leather steering wheel to hold. A massive 9inch (i think) display boots up. Straight away was the noise, it was fantastic. Popping away with a nice deep noise pulling away from junctions, the first real boot i gave it i could not hold my smile in, it was everywhere and wouldn't go away. The ride was just perfect, harsh but also smooth when you wanted it to be. I had it RS mode most of the time and the flappies were brilliant!! Super quick i was stunned how people slated the car for it. Great brakes, the brembos wouldn't be missed. A nice weighty steering wheel and good road feel. The cars build quality really stood out, much nicer than the previous gen with everything having a purpose able feel and sound. I dont need or want a new car but i think now with cheaper road tax, slightly better mpg its a no brainer and as soon as i see the right one ill be a new 220 owner.

Very nice James. Good lads in bury! If you ever fancy a blast out let me know, your only up road from me!

Think I need to experience one of these for myself. Still seeing iffy reviews on line & in the press yet owners seem to love them. I do like automatic transmission, my daily drive is a Merc, but I don't use the flappy paddles as I find no satisfaction in doing so. I would like to know if I would feel differently about them in a sports car. If they were okay I could see me having one to replace both the Merc & my mk3 RS200, though the Merc's a cabriolet & I would miss the fresh air option. I'll have to try and blag a passenger ride in a 220 at a track day sometime.

Holla this way for any Bury meets going on! Rawlinsons are great, did they still have the V6 in the showroom?? Only 11,000 on the clock looked mega!

sure perhaps we can arrange something guys, not sure how many others are in this Vicinity... Perhaps weekend after next I'll post something up!

Great news bout the test drive James ! Glad you liked it. I've had mine since December now and I'm loving it. Had my Alien green MK3 200 for 3 years previously and I can honestly say having owned the 220 for just 3 months , I'm hardly missing the 200 now . 220 is a great drivers car and just my personal view but I think I true RS . As regards your point Johnny bout test driving one having read the iffy reviews I would highly recommend it . There is no better review after all than the one off someone who actually owns one . How you get sorted soon James with your 220 !

Great write up and good to see the mk4 getting some more love and positive feedback. Just goes to show not to listen to what the press and pundits say - make up your own minds!

CS meet coming up on the 2nd April 2016 at North Weald if any of you tractor boys fancy it, i can meet you at Boreham BP about 9.30am and take you in the drome.

The doubters really should take one for a spin, they're so engaging. not once did i miss the manual. Fantastic little car, don't listen to the reviews which look down on auto boxes. just watch chris harris youtube video for a proper review.

The more you drive it the better it gets. When you really lean on it on a fast B road it comes alive, yet cruises quietly on the motorway. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, more so than my old NA 200 which I loved, the T is just better in almost every way imo.
