Will 200 Cup Shocks fit my 197?

I know the later ones have a different top mount, but will an early one fit?

Are they actually worth the extra couple of quid if they fit? I'm going to be ordering new top mounts at the same time, are they the same? And springs?

Just wondered if it might offer a slight improvement over the 197 stuff if it fits?

I’ve got 200 shocks on mine. They were cheaper at the time I’m sure too.
Pretty sure they’re meant to be dampened different - though I couldn’t tell the difference when I did Oulton in it.

The 200 cup dampers are stiffer than the 197 cup ones (was only a few percent, 4-5% IIRC), but early 200 dampers fit fine on 197 for fronts, the rears fit regardless of year (there was no change in design for rears, only the fronts), but again stiffer damper for the 200 rears over the 197 ones.

Thanks chaps. Yeah I assumed the damping would be slightly different, as these things usually evolve.

Not sure I really want stiffer really, as the roads are pretty hopeless round here...
