Whirring under braking

So not sure what it could be, but under heavy braking I can hear a kind of whirring noise coming from the rear left.

If it helps the handbrake used to slightly stick when the cold weather was around and it had been left overnight. But that generally clunked and was fine from the on, and only happened when the snow was around.

I haven't had chance to jack it up an shake the wheel to check for bearing, but could be another reason?

Any common faults?
Anybody had the same thing?

I get the same from mine. I gave my brakes a service last weekend and it made it better but it's still there. I just bought some new rear disks and caliper seals so hopefully after that the problem will be cured!
