V6 airbox questions ...

POTM Winner - February 2017
a fellow clio friend and myself are looking into (maybe) getting a V6 airbox fitted and we have a couple of questions. so, we'd like to hear from members on here with first hand experience.

  • is a remap necessary?
  • is it better to relocate the battery to the boot or have a small motorsport type of battery fitted?
  • is it true there's an extra cold air feed needed?
  • anybody know a 'how to' thread on the interwebz? (can't find one in here.)

i know gains on bhp are marginal and i swore i'd never do anything on the intake side of the clio, but you know how things go sometimes.

thank you.

I think because the air box is so big the only way is to relocate the battery.

Don't think a remap is necessary, but I think if you've not had it remapped before, you'd probably see better results with the v6 air box.

Might want to wait for someone's else's input on this though, as I may be wrong.

I'd have a search on here and google Peter there is lots of info/pictures.

Have a look at how the 197/200 cup cars had them fitted too.

Some people have moved their battery into the car and some have squeezed it in beside the air box.

Air feed is a bit tricky but might be possible from the front fog light.

Remap would be best to get the most out of it.

yeah, 've been doing just that. cheers dave.

i also asked the same question on the german clio forum and someone over there told me a remap is absolutely necessary. relocating the battery isn't needed, as long as you use a smaller and lighter race battery. cold air feed is, as you mention, a bit trickier. ideally, cold air should come from the side of the car (front wing). not from the front of the car (more turbulent airflow).

i'm going to pass on the V6 airbox and probably spent my hard-earned on the clio's suspension, next spring.
