Turbo Type-R gets a Magic Detail. Mugen M200!!

Hey all,

Been a while since I last did a proper write-up on here.. this is another Honda I was fortunate enough to be drafted in to work on! Very popular car on Civinfo!

It was booked in for my Enhancement package which looks after the interior, engine bay, and also the paintwork/wheels/glass. The paint is treated to a single stage machine polish to achieve optimum results in terms of correction and gloss without the expense of full correction and of course to leave behind a hologram free finish, fully protected with a boutque wax

So, here is the car as it was delivered to me. I had two days to turn this around

Bonnet was popped because I had already taken a look at the engine bay to determine a course of action... and given the nature of the car, curiosity got the better of me.

Started with a pre-wash foam..

Worked my way around all the badges, window gaps and all the nooks and crannies with a soft detailing brush to flick out any dirt.. I then proceeded with a luxury ph-neutral wash using CG Maxi Suds, after which I decontaminated the paintwork - Iron-X followed by Tardis..

Then I clayed the paint before another foaming session (and later dried).

Paintwork - single stage polish - 3M Ultrafina - 3M Finishing Pad.

Damage assessment...

So you get the idea, now time for some 50/50's and before/after images - now remember, this is just a single stage with what is possibly the lightest combination you will find.. soft Honda paint!

The paintwork was protected using Mitchell & King 'Philip' wax..

Glass sealed using G|Techniq G3.

Wheels were sealed with Zaino Z2 and tyres dressed with 3M Tyre Restorer..

Engine bay was given a quick wipedown with a damp cloth and a bit of APC in the more stubborn areas, but due to the complex nature of the turbo conversion and traction control electonics etc I was reluctant to get more involved here and didn't want to pressure wash or steam clean the engine bay.. but it still looked alot cleaner afterwards, but not as good as I would normally get an engine bay.

To think Honda made this then killed off the Civic Type R. That's like your misses taking off all her clothes, slipping in bed next to you then telling you she's got a headache.

Great work on the detail

Thanks guys.

Tyres, don't know tbh, I paid little attention to them other than dressing them!! All I know is that they were semi-slicks and barely road legal. I also know this car wheelspins in 3rd gear, on low boost, with traction control...

Nice work Matt, I do like these things. It was a toss up between one of these (albeit NA non-Mugen) and the 197...

nice results :thumbup1:

pitty its a turbo whole point with hondas is the n/a engine :nope:

That looks amazing! Nice job, and I do love those Mugen 200's or even better the full on Mugen Civic but good luck getting hold of one lol

They did two variations - the M20 which was seriously expensive, but that was an official Mugen car. The M200 is a CW Edition Type-R with Mugen bodykit. The turbo conversion has all been carried out by TDi North in Warrington. In road trim I believe it is running ~350/360hp on the low boost setting. In race mode it is getting on for 500hp!!

Don't know how I missed this. Not a fan of the FN2, but these Mugen's are special!

Lucky enough to have had a bit of a play with one too (the only one I've seen on the road). Pretty even performance to the Clio, but the driver decided to push on into illegal speeds... but even when it passed me doing I was blown away with the sound, what a noise!

Wanted one since then

The tyres are ''Syron Street Race'' by the way, not available in our size but can be had in 225/45/18 for ~£90/corner.

Seriously awesome car this! Followed the build on civinfo when I had my FN2. Think its got a K24 bottom end in it now. Silly fast that is.

Well its a rather expensive Halfords! The rear wings alone are around £1500 unpainted!
