Top-Up Oil Message

Guys,

Started my 197 last night and message on dashboard, advising to Top-Up Oil - now this is not new to me by all means. Happens every 6 months ish.

I never use the dashboard dipstick as a guide, but under the bonnet when I check, it will be low and I will need to add atleast 0.5 litre of oil to clear the message.

Anyone else have the need to top-up every now and again. Car runs fine, serviced to the book.

Thanks
JAM

I was told these cars are prone to burning a little oil, so I wouldn't see it as an issue.

I tend to check mine every week, and top up when required. I wouldn't want mine giving me the warning reminder on the dash before adding oil! Especially every 6 months!

I never check mine either anymore. After two years i only ever used half of my top up oil, and that was after the ring trip when it was new at around 6/7000 miles. Its used next to nothing between the 12 and 24k service.

In fact I remember the ONLY time I've ever had to top it up was at TRAX 2010 as it was barely run in

I find mine only uses oil when I've driven for a long period, circa 3 hours, at 85-90 (kph, officer). The rest of the time, commuting etc. it doesn't seem to use any.

try checking the rocker cover for leaks as its quite common, normally around by the oil filler cap, one of the bolts can leak oil

mine doesnt seem to use any but i still check with the dipstick at least every few weeks regardless what the electronic one says :innocent:

One of the things I love about my 200, I have had it 4 months now and it hasn't used a drop of oil, quite different to my s2000 which loved to guzzle the stuff, I was never done topping the oil up in that, even at that it was still within Honda's spec for oil use!

As said, it is good practice though to check it now and again, especially if you see it is using some.

I would also imagine it depends on how often you thrash the life out of the car, and if you let it warm up or not in the morning before doing some harder driving.
