Tips for exhaust replacement

Hey guys,

I'll hopefully be boosting my 197 next sprint/summer and now I have some questions about the exhaust (and basically everything, but that's for the FI section).

1. Is it worth getting aftermarket exhaust before installing the turbo? I'm considering the milltek because this is my dd and I don't want it to be crazy loud, and it's quiet cheaper then anything else. How well will it perform when the extra boost is added or it will fail completely and need a replacement?
2. Sports cat or decat? Again the same questions as above.
3. Flat spot... I really don't want to map the car twice in the upcoming 6 months (quiet a lot of cash). Is changing the exhaust going to introduce a noticeable flat spot or it will happen when the cat is removed/replaced?

Basically I want to start working on the car, but I can't really do anything major during the winter since it's my only car. Should I start investing on the turbo bits or do some side mods before that?

Hi, I bought an F1 a few weeks ago so can give you a few answers. I put a KTec "Y" pipe on and their 197 Pro system with a sports cat. The garage was initially reluctant (for my pocket's sake) to remove the "precat" and the flexipipe as the previous owner had welded the flexi together and to the manifold. For a week, I ran the exhaust with the precat. It wasn't noisy, no flat spots and seemed a bit more willing at the top end. It banged about though as the system was too near the crossmember at the rear. So they fitted the Y pipe to lift the front end of the system.
The result is a massive flat spot, big increase in sound. On reflection, I think the car is better with the precat which obviously provides the back-pressure the normal breather needs to operate smoothly.
I will have to have it remapped. I hope it sorts it out!
