Timing belt

All 197s should have pretty much had their belts done regardless of mileage but because of age.

Easiest way to look at it.

its certainly not 38k, its around the 70k mark from memory and its very up in the air on whether its 5 years or 6 years

As Rogue said, whichever one(s) you look at and consequently consider buying, make sure it has had the belts done already. It's an expensive job, as you may already know, so if it has already been done, then it's one less thing to worry about.

Make it one of your main criteria

72k 5/6 years depending on the registration date. I'd say 5 to be safe though. As said, the newest 197 will be about 5 now so look for one with a belt change already done.

Thanks guys still struggling to find a nice 197 but I have spoke I a few garages and they agreed to do the work if I buy the car

Just make sure they know what they're doing, with the correct tools to do a belt.

They are very sensitive to miss timing. Garages not savvy with these engines will make it run poorly.
