Ticking Engine Noise

There is a ticking noise coming from the engine, more prominent when warmed up. It can be described as continuous light ticks and the frequency of ticking goes up proportionately with rpms. As speed picks up it gets lost in the background of other noises but in 1st,2nd gear low revs its very distinguishable.
 
Checked oil? Don't believe the dash display a while back mine said oil level correct but it wasn't even on the dipstick :worried:
 
The F4R has never been a very quiet engine to be honest. It sounds like it could just be the injectors ticking perhaps.

A video might help, if you can film it and put on youtube and link it to the thread it may help.
 
Checked it again last night with open bonnet to locate the where the sound comes from and it seems to be across the engine cover/cylinder cover. It most probably is the injectors as you said Chris, i just don't remember them ticking so loud in my previous 197. Especially when in narrow places like drive-throughs its easily noticeable.
