Swapping Clocks/speedo

bought a 197 with standard dials and looking to throw my yellow ones in from my 200

have found the thread from the How To's showing easy it is to take them out.

my question is are these just a plug and play thing or would they need coding and mileage adjusting to be correct for the vehicle etc?

Yes they are plug and play and an easy swap but It can NOT be corrected by clip.
I tried with a genuine clip from a Renault specialist and it was a no go.

They can only be changed if they are "Virgin" clocks I believe which means you have one chance from a new clock and that's it.

I had a specialist use what I’m certain was Clip to do a mileage change on a set of 200 clocks

Switching the dials is a 5 second job once you have them out (pop the clear plastic off and pull the needles) or have I misunderstood what you are trying to do?

The mileage can be put forward but not back with the clip. The cars VIN is programed in the clocks so don't dump or sell your old clocks.

You may also be able to swap the actual printed part of the speedo as I know you can get aftermarket replacements

As said you can put the mileage forward with CLiP but not backwards (for obvious reasons). It's input in Km though so you need to convert for that, otherwise it's a 5 minute job...

You can't swap the printed legend between 197/200 clocks as some of the indicators are different e.g cruise control.

I had to swap clocks just before the MOT, as the original were Kaput. Originals on 76,000, old clock for mot 112,000.I have had the original repaired, so will put them back. MOT history will look a bit odd, but the spare clock will go with the car if its ever sold.
