Squeaky Squeaky

Seem to be getting this squeaking noise from the steering wheel.

Any ideas?

It doesn't do it when I first start driving. After 5 mins it seems to start. At slow speeds.

oh that's weird, I haven't seen that before. The only thing I can think of is column/motor? There is nothing else there really that can produce this squeaking. But I might be talking nonsense here...

My guess is its the clockspring mechanism behind the wheel, where the cabling for the airbag, horn and wheel buttons passes through from the column to the wheel itsself.

All of them are somewhat noisy especially in the summer, even from brand new, but if the noise is that noticeable I would think its on its way out.

Worst that can happen is the cable breaks and you get the airbag light turn on in the dash (and of course airbags will be deactivated until the part is replaced).

It cost around 250 euros for the Megane II
