Hi Chaps, this is very unfortunate, Steve is a proper gent.
However i wish to stress the K-Tec sprint spoilers are of excellent quality, specialising in custom parts and aftermarkets we get to see a few here and there, and some after market spoilers are utterly terrible. We've probably done 7 or 8 sprints and the shape has always been consistent and although the quality of priming, damage (scuffing) in transit etc has varied per spoiler we always heavily sand and reprime / refinish so it isnt the end of the world.
The construction of these K-Tec spoilers is nothing any different to genuine renault spoiler parts, but in my experience generally they are FAR better than your average Renault 197/200 Cup spoiler (no im not on the k-tec payrol lol),however from time to time, they all come either with pin hole's, poor filling, and other minor defects. For instance, we have done atleast 10 172/182 spoilers, genuine renault spoilers and you wouldnt believe how crap they are, the variation is incredible.
As with ANY plastic part, ovening has be done carefully or not at all, ovening is NOT a requirement to curing modern day professional paints. The type of plastic is normally labled on the spoilers / parts so a decision can be made as to the max temperature (which should never exceed 60c). If the parts flexible and plastic it will bend under heat if its not supported. I mean lets say i took a genuine renault plastic wing, hung it on a stand by 1 hole and allowed it twist under its own weight and ovened it, the outcome will be the same (something like that is alot more flexible and will recover easier).
When you take a part to a body shop, you take it there for there painting expertise, if they take the job on you wouldnt expect to have to give them instructions on how to paint it and what to do and not to do, thats what your paying them for.
I think what steves offered is excellent, and very generous, his cars are always superb, but on this instance i think the responsiblity is with the body shop to either put it right, refund for the spray work and potentially provide a new spoiler if its bend out of shape beyond recovery. Its the risk you take as a body shop when you take a job on.......
Im convinced from the pictures with applied heat (possibly IR instead of oven heat as its more focused) it can be bought back into shape, but really you'll need to have one which is good to compare against.
Unfortunately too many body shops are "rush rush" shops, ovening everything and getting the next one in asap, people want things done in a day more and more and it just isnt possible on all items.
Cheers,
Si
