Soft clutch pedal/easy travel fix?

Good evening people,

Having a small dilemma, that may be a major problem

Anyway, my clutch pedal has suddenly started to become very soft, and I can push it to the floor, not even engaging the clutch (the revs don’t drop as they do with a clutch press, when revved up)

However, should I pump the pedal a few times, full extension to full compress and repeat, I get the feel back and suddenly the clutch engages properly

I’ll also note I can’t select a gear when the travel is long/pedal is soft
A few pedal pumps later, slots in gear perfectly fine

Reading up has led me to:

Slave cylinder failure imminent
Or
Master cylinder seals leaking

If the first, it’s obviously a gearbox off and replace the clutch/slave/yadda yadda

If the second, any guides for a Mk3 master cylinder removal?

TL;DR - clutch pedal soft, can be pumped to a more solid state
Can’t change gear when soft, can when pumped
Any ideas?

Thanks guys

Sam

Should have mentioned, I’ve done this!

In that case I'd say slave cylinder, far more likely than master cylinder. Master cylinder would also affect the brakes. Unfortunately no way of knowing definitively without taking the 'box off!

That’s my thoughts/worries around this!

theres been issues with master cylinders....is the brake fluid dropping????? is there leak underneath????
it "could" be master cylinder inner piston jamming/not do full stroke

See that’s the thing
I can probably DIY the master cylinder but not the clutch
