Scrubbed Conti 3 or new Eagle F1 for track day?

It pains me to start a new thread on tyres but I've read the stickys and plenty of other other threads on this.. but have a couple of questions more specific to my needs

I am looking at Rockingham for a trackday on the 9th but only if it's dry. What do I do for front tyres? (I am on a tight budget):

- I have Conti 3's with 3mm of tread left on atm. They are SHOCKING in the wet but seem fine in the dry, should I keep these?

- I was planning on getting some Eagle F1 AS2's in the near future, should I bother getting them a bit sooner for the trackday?

- I could get two AD08R's for roughly £40 more than F1's.. I know AD08R's are the better tyre but how quickly are they going to wear compared to the F1's? I use the car daily and can't afford to keep replacing tyres.

Just want some opinions really please

Misc questions:

Do I go for 215 or 225? Any pros/cons?

Why are there XL's for £86 and £95? Is there a difference?

Do people get their AD08R's from this site or is there cheaper?

Can't answer any other question apart from the bottom one.

And the answer is no. Never ever buy them direct.

Try Demon Tweeks/K-Tec/My-Tyres/Lark Speed

225/45-17 width. Plenty of cheaper options  the extra width makes no noticeable difference.

More semi slicks available for a lot cheaper.

IMO, if your only going to do the trackday if it's dry, keep the worn conti's. 3mm is plenty and they'll be better at that depth than a new tyre, you'll get more tread movement on the new ones, bad for track.

plus you'll enjoy more as you won't be worried about wearing a pair out.

I noticed more tramlining when I switched to 225/45. I'm on standard 7.5j rims.

Doesn't really bother me. The car feels more like a go kart now...

Of course, this could be due to the fact that my camber is way out.

EDIT: on topic, stick with the contis for the trackday if it's dry - you might as well use the rest of the tread.

Cheers, will keep the Conti's on! What are the cheaper semi slicks available? I thought the AD08R's were really well priced. Can you comment on how long AD08R/semi slicks would last compared to F1's or the like?

225 width gives you a nice choice for semi slicks and cheaper too. More common size.

Syron Street race (don't be put off by the name)
Bridgestone RE070A

they are just the two extra choices I can think of at the mo.

I ran the yokohama AD08 before my current Syrons, you'll get the same amount of mileage from them as a normal tyre.
The Yoko is the standard 8.5mm tread and you should see 10-12K out of them with a mix of driving.

The Yoko is pretty hard until they get up to temp, so unless your beating them around the road/track you'll be fine.
the Syron has 5.5mm so I'm 3.5K on them and they're just coming onto the markers.

Federal RSR is also another good choice for road/track mix.

Most people use the above tyres (excluding the syron) through winter and find them as good as any other

Yeah I was surprised to see that 225 are cheaper than 215.. only by a bit but still.

That's just what I wanted to hear! AD08R is a different compound to AD08 though and I'm assuming it's a bit softer, so might not last as long(?).

Anyway I will hopefully give them a go soon (might even buy them before the trackday and whack them on if it rains).

Tbh I donut there's too much of a difference between the 2, it's just another money turner, even if they're a little softer, you'll still see 10K out of them IMO.
