Salt on the Roads!

Unluckily my dad occupies our garages with a couple of his toys and I don't get a look in on keeping the Clio warm at night ha.

I only have a 12 mile round trip to work but the car becomes covered in the horrible grit put down on the roads, I want to spray it off every night but know it will just be as bad the next day and also I'm worried the water will freeze pretty thick on the car.

Just how badly does the salt in the grit for the roads affect paintwork i.e. eating into it?

Thanks

Wont really affect paint too much, it will start to rust bare metal though.

Still, would suggest you have some wax on the paintwork to make sure its protected

and dont rub to hard! jet wash never gets 100% of it off before washing, tends to act like sand paper, so washing to much can also have the reverse effect

Make sure your car has a good coat of wax and it'll be fine, When you wash it try to use snowfoam to remove the grit,

Salt will effect your wheels the worse, due to the bake dust reacting with the salt, normal paint will be fine

I would resist washing the car more than once a week, as you will damage the paint work to a degree every time you do, no matter how gentle you are.

bodywork will be fine for moment, just blast it with jet wash without wash it for now, till the weather get better.

but remember keep the wheels clean or the salt will eat it cos of the heat from the brakes....not good

Nothing to do with heat, its all down to electrolytes which form on the wheel due to salt spray, then the iron filings and brake dust increase the electrical conductivity of the electrolyte, thereby increasing the rate of corrosion.

Thats why wheels get effected the most

Just get a quality wax on it!

Last year my Trophy went 6 weeks without a wash and when I did get to wash it the wax was still there under the crap protecting the paint!!

The wax had been on about 5 months

I would like to jet wash the 3 day old salt off my car however the outside tap has frozen so i have no choice :worried:

As soon as I get mine, its going straight to my local detailer to be sealed/protected!
I doubt ill be able to wash mine all winter, as my drive is a hill and the water just freezes leaving either me or my dad unable to get the car out lol
Whilst the detailer is working on my paint, ill also be having the wheels off and putting a good layer or 2 of Rimwax on to protect those aswell.
