RS Combe 5th July (videos)

The clio got another outing at castle combe on the weekend, love this car on track but im sure im still not intune with it two or three corners i can take a lot better or in a higher gear but i will get there im sure  want to get laps down under 1min 30 but i havent managed it as yet. Any tips on what im doing wrong would be great, i know ive got to be in fourth going through camp corner but when its wet/damp i always seem to change down, i can also use the brakes a lot harder but i just havent got the bottle at the moment. I also need to work out if ive got the braking power to brake after the avon rise instead of braking before, down to thrid, power back over and then back on the brakes.

first session wet.

Funnily enough my boyfriend saw you on the track as he was there with the focus rs guys. He said the same as you: you're changing down too early and can brake later, just a bit cautious at the mo.

it'll come, I'm just too used to the weight of the rs focus I think. haven't adapted to keeping the rhythm and speed up with the Clio.

Yeh it will. You'll have to post some more vids next time you get on track. I'm too much of a woose to take mine out on track :-/.

You can kind of throw the Clio in and then thumb it through far more than bigger cars and use lift off oversteer to sharpen it if needs be but just be aware the rear snaps and you need to be back on the power immediately. That should allow you to carry speed and not change down like you would in the focus which you just can't do the same.

The Clio is all about carrying the speed rather than slow in fast out and using the power.

Far easier said than done in the wet I know.

As Simon says above is all about carrying speed in the Clio. You'll be surprised just how fast these cars will corner and how precise they are at changing direction very quickly.

Hammerdown and folly could be done flat out. Quarry corner is where you lose masses of time. Most people take the same line, braking before going over Avon Rise and keeping left before turning in to Quarry. You can come over Avon Rise giving some beans flat out and brake very hard , once the car has settled down.

I was there, but nit in my Clio :worried:
I did try to find you to say hello!

You just need more confidence, the exit of a corner is far more important than the entry, slow in fast out and keep it smooth.
197's respond best when really thrown about. You'll be amazed at how quick they are on track and just what you can get away with, and quite how late you can brake!.

..and keep it above 5K Rpm
The Clio 182 that was lapping was really flying!

that 182 cams off twice in front of me

I was a bit pissy with my lack of speed, I've probably got a thousand laps of Combe under my belt lol mainly in turbo cars though, boost needed I think.

ive never been able to brake after Avon rise scares the life out of me!

I may try to 'forget to brake' then ;/ even though I never track a car without sorting the brakes I still picture them failing, I think that's why I'm never on the limit, still have fun though I suppose that's all that matters
