rev's been held

Just started the car up.

backed off the drive, stopped and the engine held revs on it's own at 2k and didn't settle. Turned off and back on and was sound.

Strange as never done it before. Any ideas??

Sounds like an air leak somewhere, some pipe worked it way loose. Or the ICV valve (Idle Control Valve)

Either that or a vacuum pipe has worked loose; either way, cheap fix

There's loads of vacuum pipes near the battery/air box area. They all slip onto a plastic recirc valve you should see a few small rubber pipes connecting onto it

ICV for a 1*2 is around £10, so I'd imagine around the same for a 197/200

idle valve....they don't have one...just the throttle body!

might be worth giving it a clean can get a bit carboned up!

As foxspeed says mate def sounds throttle body related, my 172 did this quite often and I removed the throttle body and cleaned it up and reffited and was perfect after that.

Shows I haven't touched my 200 much! Lol

just assume most most is the same as my 172 was lol.

i knew most stuff on that..

lol

Mine has done it a few times when cold, I dropped the revs by engaging first gear and slowly releasing the clutch. Never bothered me tbh but I might clean the tb myself. I cleaned it 5 months ago so I can't see it being in a bad state. I've got a Ktec induction kit if that makes any difference..

Mine does it most time I start from cold if I touch the accelerator just after starting while in neutral. I solve it by doing the same as you.. just pull away and it settles lol.
