retrofitting tom tom...

Ok i did just get this from the thread above, but is it easy enough to retofit a tom tom to a 197?

any major complications that come up?

Im quite electronically minded so i should be ok

also what would i need?
thanks
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I retro fitted the TomTom into my 197, not a very easy job as the wiring is completely different. I just made a new separate loom for the TomTom as it needed to be fitted into the cars CAN Bus. You will need-

TomTom Screen
Screen Surround
Radio
Loom
Multimedia Interface Box
GPS Car Aerial
SD Card
Remote

Don’t think I’ve left anything out, if you need any more information or help I’d be happy to help mate.

Cheers Luke

when you had all that was it pretty much easy enough?

Im quite electronically minded so i shouldnt reely have much of a problem!

Rough price to do it all too?
PM me if you like

Hi Ryan,

Sorry mate, only just seen your reply. I think it’s probably cost me a little under £400. Most of that was the initial cost of buying the TomTom unit (although I have seen them much cheaper on eBay since "typical").

It does take quite a bit of tinkering to get working as it needs to be wired into the ESP unit and the cars CAN BUS system, but if you’re electronically minded you shouldn’t have a problem at all.

I’m still working on getting it working 100% correctly. I’m going to have a good go at it again this weekend so il let you know about the result and some more information about how it all connects up. I’ve used it on two long journeys now and it works great, I’m just interested in being able to turn it off when I’m not using it so it just displays the time and temperature.

It’s not that much work if you’re handy with electronics got it all working fine tonight. Took a few pictures just now, sorry there not very good taken on my phone. Even got it working with my aftermarket headunit.
