Removing oil filter without oil pissing out.

This will be my second time removing oil filter

My first time was awful as the filter was still full of oil, so when I went to turn it off(filter) oil pissed out.

Is there anyway of draining oil filter? Or making the job less messy?

Yes I drained the engine before any bright sparks say that!

Its a crappy design and oil will tip out when you take the filter off.

I always get kitchen roll, lots of it and roll it into a sausage. You then wedge that under the filter before removing the filter.

all you can do is punch a small hole in so it drains out before removing
