Recaro Seats

Evenin' all.

Have many people here bought their Clio 197/200 without Recaro Seats but added them later? What price did you pay?

I'm a noob when it comes to things like this, so do excuse me, but if you change the seats would it be wise (legal?) to claim it as a modification for insurance purposes? Or, because seats are a legal requirement, do they not have to be accounted for?

:f1team07:

200 seats you will be looking at £800-1200 second hand depending on condition. 197 i would say cheaper than 200. I havent told my insurance but thats me. To me a seats a seats, aslong has its safe.

Would 197 recaros fit a 200? Reason I didn't get recaros in my 200 is because of the yellow bits on them, but I hear the 197's don't so have been debating whether I should try and find some really good condition ones or not depending on if they are a straight fit?

So 197 seats will fit a 200? Know what I will be buying next payday then! If your going to bother buying brand new 200 recaros then get some leather ones man, they look the nuts.

I tried this back in November after sourcing a pair of 197 recaros for exactly the same reason you stated Bradtate and thinking it would be a straight swap, it is NOT a straight swap for the electronics however! It can be done but only by either spending stupid amounts of money on entire new wiring looms, or bodging by cutting into the wiring loom and bridging connections etc (which i thought was too pikey of a solution for a brand new car under warranty).

I tried local dealer, Renault Customer services, and a specialist.

When you dont spec Recaros, you get a different ECU and Wiring loom compared to someone that does. Normal seats have 3 functions in them, Airbags, Seatbelt pretensioner and "Anti-Submaring airbags" and its this which causes the problem as the Recaros dont have this (due to the position they sit/hold you in) and it causes the engine management light to come on.

Heres my thread: http://www.clio197.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7905

thats not entirely right as i fitted recaro seats to to my 197FF they plug straight in, the only other i had to do was to take to renault to reconfigure the ecu due to there being an airbag less than the the normal seats, but i think i did read that cup recaros area different to FF recaros

I wanna know what's up with the yellow bits on the recaro seats in the 200? I think the seats look really good tbh. I know its down to taste, but haven't met anyone yet who thinks the seat colour for the 200 is anything but good. Anyway, yellow rant over

My car is currently being built - is it too late to ask for the Recaro seats to be put in, or should I wait until afterwards?

The dealer completely put me off Recaros when we went for a test drive.

Bearing in mind I drove in the standard seats and hadn't even seen the Recaro seats before I'd ordered my car already, all he said was;

"Mate, there's no way I can advise spending £850 on seats" - and then I was adamant about not getting them.

However, later on I checked out the seats on google images and regretted the decision (not to a great degree), but the more I see the more I want.

Will check again with the dealers.

"Mate, there's no way I can advise spending £850 on seats" = "Mate, there's no way I can be arsed doing all the work to change the order to include the seats"

At first I agreed with him but since I've doubted it.

He wasn't being lazy at that point, as I hadn't even ordered the car!

I spoke to him today the car is at "production" point rather than "flexible production" point. Meaning it will be difficult to change my order, my delivery date is March 1st. Keep in mind, however, that I have been trying to call since 10 days ago. Each and everytime the receptionist said that the particular salesman dealing with the delivery of my car was busy and therefore she would arrange for him to ring me back. It never happened, and today I snapped at her, saying it was the fourth time I've called and that they never call me back. She immediately responded with "Oh! He's here now".

He made a bit of a fuss at my request to add the Recaro seats, saying he would do what he can. I'm annoyed, maybe if he would've responded when I first called it still would've been in the flexible production period.

Not impressed by Renault's customer service at all, past experiences with other dealers have been considerably better.

Rant over.

Do you have the option to cancel your order?

If you do, cancel it and place a new one, then they will have to fit the Recaros as its a new order.
