Painting centre caps

Had the wheels done in gloss black, so I need to paint the centre caps to match. Not attempted anything like that before, any advice or how to guides?

It's pretty easy, push the ren badge off and set aside, rub down, plastic primer, couple of coats of black, couple of coats of lacquer, etc.

This is one of the reasons my powder coat was dearer, they painted the centre caps to match for me. I guess it'll be fairly easy though, they look like the badge just pops off and back on again.

I paid £120 for all 4, can't complain:wink:

Na, that's a good price tbh. But I got a quote for 4 centre caps from Karl, and he quoted £72! So painting them yourself, as long as you feel comfortable doing it, will save some serious cash! For me, I probably wouldn't have tackled it, never done anything like that before. So that would have been nearly £200 for me. Then I had a courtesy car for 3 days, so if I'd have had to hire a car, you could say that would have cost me a fair bit. What was the place you took yours to like to deal with? Do they guarentee? My mate is thinking of having his wheels done you see, and asked me what I thought of the place I went to. So I thought I would ask about the place you went to too! Lol!

They're ok, but the delivery time slipped by a couple of days. I had a spare set of wheels, so it wasn't an issue, but for others it could be. I'd say I'd probably go to the wheel specialist for a perfect job, on time etc. Given that time wasn't a massive issue, the place I used have done a very good job. They tried to give me 3 clio wheels and one evo wheel on collection, but that was swiftly resolved lol!

I'm going to attempt this soon. Just bought some Halfords Satin Black spray paint. Need to get some satin lacquer and wet and dry now then I can give it a shot. I've never done anything like this before either.

I'm also going to be spraying my washer jets glacier white so they don't look like ugly blobs of plastic on my bonnet. Then I will also spray my wheel bolts black, with a hefty coat of lacquer, so they look better in the black speedlines.

Rico...always wondered why renault didnt put the washer jets in the scuttle panel like on the corsa vxr etc....looks so much smoother and cleaner without them on the bonnet!

My washer jets are outside drying now, after a couple of coats of white primer and a couple of coats of Renault Glacier White. When dried I will give them a couple of coats of clear lacquer too for protection.

I also have eight wheel nuts currently drying after a couple of coats of black satin paint and two coats of lacquer. I am doing eight wheel nuts at a time, splitting them all into two jobs. That way I don't have to take my wheels off. Just take two bolts off each wheel. Not doing my locking wheel nuts. Worried I'll fill the patterny bit with paint and they won't work right!

I bought the covers, surely the paint will be damaged the first time you put the bolts back in??

Dude you don't need lacquer with satin black. Just nip to Halfords, get some scotchbrite pads, tin of satin black paint, that's all you need of covering over the anthracite caps
