Oil/pollen/air filter

Has anyone used or see any reason against using a non-Renault oil, pollen or air filter?

The ones I'm on about are the ones on Euro Car Parts. I've heard they are all made in the same factory, it's just the Renault ones you pay for the stamp?

I'd definitely stick to the Renault Elf oil, it's perfect for the car, it's fully synthetic and it's cheap too. £27 for 5L + 1L top up.

id upgrade to a panel filter you can wash and re-fit, something like a K&n, itg etc.

and any pollen flter is fine

As far as we are concerned, aftermarket filters are often just as good as the manufacturers ones. We sell thousands a year (6000 ish so far this year of the non-manufacturer ones) and I can't think of a problem with any where they have been fitted properly and changed when they should be. We've sold about 800 of the manufacturer branded ones so far and we have had problems where Nissan have listed the wrong filters for their own cars and although we haven't had any problems with the Subaru filters, some people have found that there was a dodgy batch which led to oil leaks. If you want to go and buy the cheapest filters off Ebay, you may well have problems, but if you pay a little more for reputable ones, you should be fine.

Also, who makes manufacturer branded filters? Filter companies, not the car manufacturer. We sometimes receive UFI filters that rather than being in their normal UFI branded box, will be in a manufacturer box instead.

I don't know what Renault charge for filters, but here are some that we have for a 197.

With a lot of manufacturers, we're usually a little cheaper on the oil filter and quite a lot cheaper on the others. It's not always like that, but usually we're cheaper and they are quality filters.

Cheers

Thanks for the response Tim. It's interesting to see the response of someone who sees large quantities of these items and how many have faults. There's no way I would ever fit a cheap filter (or oil) in my car, but it's made me consider a non-OEM replacement in the future provided there was a difference in cost enough to warrant it.

I work for a motorfactors.... I can do MANN filters, which are OE spec, sell thousands of them. On a trade account for a oil filter £2.77 plus the vodka and tonic.

My last one (about 2 weeks ago!) cost me £8 from Renault, including a new sump washer. Why would you not but OEM at that price?

I have always used the renault OEM filters for my Clio Mk1 16v, my Clio 2 172 Cup and my Clio 3 197. Had no problems and if you do it yourself (easy enough), it is cheaper anyways.
