Michelin Pilot Sport 4 wear rate...

So in early november I got a full set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, all brand new.

I just randomly checked the wear on the front tyres to find they were near the wear limit already

I realise softer compound = More grip = Faster wear, but I don't tend to spin my wheels or anything so slightly surprised how quickly they have worn down.

Only 5 months old and done a max of 15k miles (Don't know the exact figure but decent guess)...

Anyone else getting this kind of wear rate on PS4's? Should I be getting onto Michelin about this?

I’d say 15k on front tyres is pretty decent on a fwd car. I’d happily take that!

15 k is quite good to be fair my focus would knock them out in 7k

I can’t imagine 15k being too bad on a pair of fronts mate.... I’ve had a lot less on a lot harder compounds haha

Suppose my idea of how long these things last was wrong then, was kinda going off the warranty michelin offer on the PS3's...

I've swapped front and rear wheels so should get at least another 10k out the set before having to look at new ones?

15K doesn't sound like very long to me if you're consistently driving fairly sensibly (e.g no spinning up the fronts or screeching round corners everywhere). I guess it depends what sort of miles you're doing but fairly sure I was getting more like 25K out of a set of Eagle F1's...

As others have commented, 15k sounds pretty fair and like you said, you've swapped them over so you'll get a bit more out of them too.

Just like fuel consumption figures, the "lies, dam lies and statistics" that come out of test labs bear no resemblance to the real world situation. Add that to a sport oriented FWD car, which hopefully you are enjoying, then 15K is pretty good.
As an addition, I do a lot of work of skid avoidance courses and the like and although you hope to get 10K more miles out of these, the fronts are already substantially compromised in terms of outright performance and certainly wet performance and I doubt the rears will last a further 10K on the front. If cost is an issue look at something like a Kumho PS71 which while the "reviews" (which are mainly utter cobblers written by clueless people) will tell you Michelin are the very best tyre in the world ever, the Kumho will be half the price meaning you can replace them twice as often and will have better performance for most of the time.

I'm pretty sure this is a use case for tire rotation.... at least front to back on a regular basis to extend the life of the tire.

just asking, because I had quite a lot more out of them than I ever expected, bought a set when the car had 25 k km on the clock, used winter tires in the winter, but still, have around 114k km now, and will replace them for a new set next spring, still have enough thread depth to pass the MOT, just got a bit hard and slippery after 4 seasons of use, so did around 90k km on both sets, with more mileage done on the summer set, also did a 20 minutes session on a track with them will definitely get the same in the spring unless there’s a PS5 coming out

They’re the best road tyre you’ll buy imo. I’ve used them on track numerous times as my wet set too.
I’ve just bought a replacement set, as my currents are getting a little low.

In total I’ve used, 2 pairs on the front and a pair on the rear since July 2018

I have got PS4s on my Clio. I have had them for about 8 months now. The Clio has only done about 3,500 miles since I have had it. They tread is still looking good and when the car is out on the road it is usually given a spirited drive. I also did a track day at Lydden Hill in December. The surface at Lydden Hill is a pretty abrasive surface - it was dry but not very warm - and the tyres have got minimal damage from the track day.



I managed wear out a set of Bridgestone Potenza S007s on the front of my Megane 280 in just 9,500 miles. The mobile tyre technician from Kwik Fit that replaced the tyres with PS4s on the Megane said he thinks PS4s are only beaten by Michelin Cup 2s for grip but not wear.

You might find that if you do a track day in hot weather the PS4s might not cope very well if they are pushed really hard.

Solid tyre, using a full set of these and can't complain! Minimal mileage on them to be fair though
