Light and sloppy gear shift?

Anyone noticed their gearshifts getting somewhat less accurate and precise with mileage? Mine used to be tight and direct, easy to locate each gear with nice feel, I luved it. Now mine feels asthough it's connected to nothing anymore and I'm just doing the motion as if by fly by electronics. It lacks all feel and finding gears is becoming increasingly difficult.

Anyone else experienced similar problems or know of any known cures, possibly a worn joint or slack cables?

i would be looking at the linkage on the top of the gearbox first and the bottom of the gearlever for any obvious signs of play/wear/worn linkage

could be a simple fix

drove a 40000 mile plus 197 and gear change was very slick

It has alot of difficulty self centering, I.e it will sit in neutral between gears 5 and 6 as happily as it will 3 and 4. There is no spring back to the middle.

that sounds more like the linkage mechanism than an internal problem

Thats exactly what i thought, contacted renault and the entire stick, cable and mechanism is one unit priced at £120. I think i'll just drop it off at 519, cba to be wasting money chasing the fault around.

Do you have pics of whats included with the unit? connections etc?

i can get pics for u, its the stick and the 2 cable as well as the unit, all as one, the linkage isnt something u can just repair really as the whole unit is sealed shut

The hardest thing to live with is the non centering of it rather than the throw.

Had a look under there last week, looks like a bitch of a job!

there is also a spring bias on the linkage in the gearbox....but its internal

might be worth dropping off the cross gate selector cable and seeing how much spring bias there is on that lever
