knocking noise

ive been getting a knocking noise over the last few months, basically when going over uneven ground, up and down speed bumps, jerky changing gear, and sudden letting of acceleration, my car is lowered on springs, ive changed the lower gearbox mount to a stiffer one hoping that would sort it, but it didnt, also checked suspension top mounts etc.

But i think ive found the problem when doing the gearbox mount without knowing it, because when doing the mount i notice that the drivers side drive shaft that goes parrellel with the bottom of the engine and through what looks like a cast bracket/bearing bolted to bottom of the engine. Well inside of this bracket (where it meets the shalf) was all exposed grease, like something broke and the grease is coming out.

What would be your opinion on this, is it normal? has someone cover it in grease to lubricate it or has something broke causing it to knock?
Any help appreciated.

thats the driveshaft support bearing

if its spewed grease out then that really shouldnt happen!

you will need to unbolt/disconnect the shaft/bearing carrier and check for play and smooth running - anything excessive then its a new bearing :foxspeed:

well if its a bearing and theres grease all over it thens a good chance its that has it hasnt made that much of a mess ie grease flipping everywhere and it clean grease (no dirt in it) and its only been knocking a month or so. cheers for that fox

try giving the lower arm blots a wrench up, just a thought i found mine were a bit loose after having the sub frame down for the manifold change.
