Intake hoses, is it ok to run without the T off?

Hi guys, Fitted my new silicon hoses today and noticed that the straight pipe isn't exactly the same as the one fitted to the car already.
The car has a T off going vertically downward to a box I cannot quite reach.
Is this important? What does it do?
Is it ok for me to run without this connected the the silicon pipe or should I make a whole in it to accommodate?

PS. is it an acoustic valve on the right hand side which the smallest pipe goes to?

As Mr.F said you'll find a whacking great Resonator down in the front bumper where the old pipe used to run into. Take it out and save some weight!!!

The smaller ''trumpet'' is a secondary inlet. Have a search for the ''Our Intake'' thread, or it's called something like that anyway. It has the techincal drawings in there and there's loads of info' about it. Whatever you do, that pipe that runs to the solenoid for it from the Inlet must stay connected. Even if you change to an open cone filter or a different Airbox at a later date, that hose must still be connected otherwise it fires up a load of warning lights...

^ my solenoid has been plugged with a screw where the pipe goes in to.

Have you guys noticed much noise increase with the resonator pipe removed? Do you need to take the battery out to get to it?

Ps. The 'our intake' thread is a sticky at the top of the page

Same here mate, it's rum but it works!!!

I'm using the V6 Airbox, so in terms of noise it's a whole lot louder than standard hahaha! Never drove the car without the resonator connected though so couldn't tell you how much of a difference that would make. It's a battery out job to remove, it's a big old box.

Tbh, since I have fitted the silicon hoses, it has a much nicer induction roar!
Also, I think the flat spot has been erased a little!
All from some hoses!

Iv left the standard hoses on but just plugged the end of the t piece and refitted the pipes, if I like the sound ill look into removing it completely, only just done this so ill leave feedback later

She sounds a beast, cleaned my itg panel filter & re oiled, blanked off the vacume pipe to the acoustic valve and blanked off the T piece that goes to the resonator box = much nicer induction note and cost nothing but a little time

so basically if I buy a set of pipes, I change the 3, pull the resenator out and thats it? don't need to f*ck around with anything else?
