How do i tell if the Gearbox is shot??

Hi guys,

Aware of all the gearbox issues on 197's, if i'm test driving one, how will i know it its on its way out? Can i assume that it will just be hard to engage and crunch into gear, or is there anything else i should look for?

Is it certain gears it will struggle with, or will it be all of them?

Crunches, rough going between 3&4th.
Try and test the box cold as you might find it hard to stick in reverse/first when cold.

2nd,3rd,4th are the ones to watch.

Well mine was replaced mainly because of that, the new one isn't as bad as the old one as I dont have to smack it into reverse.

Sometimes have trouble getting into gear when moving off if it's cold. However, once warm it performs perfectly
