Help

Had 4 tyres replaced today before my MOT tomorrow.
I did 70-80 miles and all was fine, now i have a tyre pressure sensor fault and no tyres are showing.
Did i mention i have it booked in for it's MOT straight after work tomorrow?

Not a good time for it to happen. The alloys are ones recently purchased and i had the tyres (federals 595rsr) put onto my 197 alloys and the new tyres put on the speedlines. Could it be that the car isn't recognising the different sensors? (but then why would they have worked upto then?)
I'm taking it back to the garage before my mot tosee what they say but is there anything i can do (maybe deflate/inflate tyres to kick he sensors back to life)

Nevermind went out this morning to see that the tyre shop/garage had put the wrong valves on the wrong set of tyres. Going to have to reschedule my mot until i get the issue corrected.
Or if i have time I'll stop in at the Renault dealer close to work and get the TPS turned off so i can get it through it's mot and then get the valves switched and the system re enabled.

Sounds like a dodgy mistake to me mate.

On the other hand how are you liking the 595s? I've been thinking more and more about some after my contis but want to know what the grip levels are like in comparison?

Let me know!

ATM they aren't on the car as the speedlines are but i did run them on upto the tyre shop near my mums (about 45 minute drive) and they are such nice tyres when thy were warmed up.
the way the held onto the road was something else but you do need to get them warmed up so don't push it till then.
They also hold better in the wet then my contis did. Can't speak for them compared to the new 5s.
They impressed me so much that I'm considering running them as my road tyres after the winter has passed, over the 5s I've ordered.
That will depend on how the 5s hold up though as from what I've heard they are really superior to the 3s they replace.

As luck would have it I've had to reschedule my mot till next Tuesday as my keys jammed in the station lock and i have to extend my shift until a locksmith arrives now.
Going to get the valves done after work over having the TPS disabled.

Sounds good mate. The 5s do sound good but I want to know more about each before I make the decision I think. For me it's just about all out grip. I don't care about much else tbh.

On the 197 it's factory and is an MOT testable safety system for the car (TPS = tyre pressure sensors)
You can and will fail if it's faulty.
My bothers failed on faulty sensors last year.

Hopefully I'll be able to compare within the next few months but i really do love the 595rsr as little as i used them.
I can't wait to really test them out as the grip really was something else. I thought the Clio/contis were good coming from my old car but it proves that a good set of tyres help no end.

Sounds odd about mot. But more to the point get those rsr's on and tell everyone about them!!!

You are all correct. I actually phoned my mot test place and enquired if a TPS fault would mean i would fail my mot. The reply
'those are not part of the test at this moment'
Told my brother and he is contacting vosa regarding his mot just to try, even though his was ages ago. If its not part of he mot now it can't have been then so hopefully he should see something happen with regards to it failing on that.

Rsr's will be going on shortly. I'm having my valves swapped over so I'll get them to just take the whole tyre off my old alloys and place them back on the speedlines. Should have left the Rsr's on their I'm the first place it seems :tongueout:

Hmmmm well that's good news you won't fail on that then. I knew there was new regulations for next year as Ralphy mentioned.

Just thought I'd update this.
Renault wanted £205.50 to fit my 4 valves to the car.

As i knew where they had come off as the tyres were marked i went to a local euromasters garage and enquired what they would charge to switch the valves over onto the correct tyre (this is with removing off car, and taking tyres from both alloys to put the correct valves in place) £10 a corner, so £40 all in (it was £12 a corner but the nice man behind the desk gave me a discount  )

Let's say I'm shocked at the price difference

Haha! Awesome price difference. If its someone else's fault though how comes your paying!? Or have I misunderstood?

No I'm going back so no paying for me. I just decided to price up having te valves on my other tyres replace eventually and Renault quoted that as labour and £150 for the parts.
I was just curious to see what the non Renault labour would be if I supplied the parts at the euromasters down the road to see how ridiculous the dealer quote was

out of interest when it does come part of the test how much are these valves each cause i know my alloys dont have the sensors on as i just had four new tyres and my mechanic told me they werent on there...

37 something per valve ATM.
It's the labour that's really the back breaker as only Renault can code them in to work.

Does yours show up with 'tyre pressure sensor fault' when you start the car and the display shows the car with no tyres? Also if the valves are just rubber ones then they aren't.
The sensor ones have what look like metal nuts on the bottom.

ah thats not to bad really then i was thinking about a £100 a valve and yes to both questions i dont have any tyres on the dash display but i didnt know any different when i got the car the seller said there was one faulty sensor and yes i do get the tyre pressure sensor fault displayed for a few seconds

typical only renault can code them back in i guess its like tech2 with vauxhalls.... surely you could get the sensors fitted at your own garage then just take it to renault and they code it in???

I suspect so.
I'm lucky in that I know where my tyres came off so can get the valves switched without the recoding.
It's worth an ask as tbh Renault labour prices are ridiculous.
Mine only started this after I changed alloys I can post a picture up of the sensor valves so you can compare to what you have on your wheels at the moment. Then you can tell if it's a case of wrong valves or a faulty one

Problem sorted. Got them switched and as I drove home 1 by 1 they showed up

Got the fed 595rsr's on it now and I loved the ride home.
Noticed road noise from them is slightly more them from my old tyres at 35-40 but is of similar levels at other times.
