Help on getting meg 225 parts

I'm very interested in this conversion now so a few questions/advice, I could do with knowing exactly what I need and what to look out for before purchasing parts, iv found one that's geting broke guys said engine runs fine and I can take what I need for £1500 is this expensive or about right as iv seen road worthy cars for sale at £2500 but I don't want to be stuck with an engineless meg, any help/advice is much appreciated.

Iv been looking at the same mate i was goin to buy a meg use the parts i need and sell the rest for parts make some money back you will get plenty back. But iv just been offerd my mates 225 for free just needs some rods so hopefully in good to go. Are you fitting it your self?

Nah I think it would be too tricky, I could defiantly fit it all but it's the wiring/can system & ecu that would fry my brains, looking on ktecs site it's not just a simple remove old fit new job but I'm not 100%

Also I'm petrified it's never going to be right after as I like the clio so much as it is, what kind of reliability issues there will be etc I want it to be like factory fit so I can service/maintain it myself insted of taking it back to the garage every few weeks because somthing els has gone wrong, I would never forgive myself if that happend lol

I posted elsewhere, its generally not plug and play mate. I've seen a fair few of these done and you need a bit of patience to work through the niggles. Well worth it but people have to be realistic, although its a great conversion, its still relatively new and SteC who's done most of them is still developing and tweaking the conversion. Theres enough on here now, but I think at times people can make out its easier than it is. The engine going in is the easy bit, the harder stuff is to follow.
Do your homework mate, and if its something you want to pursue, seek some advice. For example, conversion needs only a certain Meg ecu to run, and they are like 'hens teeth' to get hold of.....

you'll need a r26 ecu which as willson said are a nightmare to get hold of, i was quite lucky cause i wasn't in a rush for a ecu, being out of the country for 6 months where as angel waited months for a suitable ecu to crop up.

Paul at Rs tuning told me he can use any ecu from any meg to reprogram so it would be worth asking him

He's got a full car he said I could use (100000miles) but cash isn't expendable and I don't have time to be selling bits of a car to make some money back I was looking to buy just the essentials, ideally I'd drop car off and use a rental car for 2-3 weeks pick the car up & no hassles, it's the taking it back when somthing goes wrong I'm afraid of, I know my engine by now so I'm happy to drive anywhere and not be worried that something's gona go wrong and I'm not sure it would be the same after if you get what I mean ?

paul at rs tuning said the same about mine £75+vat and post later it didn't work I had to have the correct ecu

I agree with litchy it's harder than what people make out but if your pretty cappable with the spanners give it a go and if the looms your trouble talk to ste he will do it cheaper and much better than k tec and they chop a 225 loom onto a 197 loom where as ste modifys a 197 loom the main advantage of this is the ecu sits in its original position as does the whole loom

as for ecus I've been told the same hard to find only certain ones work I paid £300 for mine and worked perfectly

buy a whole car and you could probably do the whole conversion for free just give it a good service before fitting I ****ed up by skipping the water pump :worried:

I like the idea of new bits onto my engine I'm speaking to engine dynamics about there kit there developing that's based on the 172/182 conversions they do. If I go down the meg route iv just wasted a brand new gear box and clutch I fitted about a month ago, mines due it's belt this year so I'm thinking they'd do it at the same time. Has anyone had anything to do with engine dynamics is it a reliable mod on the 172/182s iv never heard of them until iv searched for a conversion ?

If it's the turbo kit your talking about I've heard there pretty good and apparently the mapping is pretty good but never used them myself

if you've just built a gearbox for your 197 why not use it on your meg engine ?
