Hello and sorry to start with a question

Hi. I part own a 197 track car and after a cracking run round oulton today encountered a gearbox issue 1 mile from home. Car got stuck in 4th gear and would only come out after having to stop the car and bang the gearstick into neutral. It then drive fine back in 1st, 2nd and 3rd but immediately had the fault again in 4th when trying the box on the drive with the engine not running.

I have put a video on YouTube of the noise that is apparent when the engine is running, in neutral and with the clutch both pressed and released.

If anyone has any help or info as to where I can learn more I would be very grateful.

Sounds like you might be lucky and one of the gear linkages has popped off the box, have a look at this thread

Is it an under the car job or something I can do from inside? I've lost 5th and 6th, and made 1st and 2nd harder to get into so driving on the motorway in 4th was the best I could do till I got home. No signs of going what-so-ever but I was joining the m'way and shifted through the gears...

Yea, check the linkage first - behind the battery. Make sure nothing is obstructing it, and the cables are still secured.

Had a look and it wasn't anything blindingly obvious. All linkages looked how they should be and the selectors look ok too. Think it's going to have to go off and be looked at by a specialist. Does anyone have any recommendations for gearbox people?

If you are anywhere near Essex you could contact AW Motorsport via Facebook. They did my gearbox and Gripper at the start of the year.
