Front spring sheared- F1 R27

Just found out at the dealership whilst it was in for a service that the front 2 springs had sheared... quite a eye opener has the i thought the handling was quite good!!! :blush:hmy:

Anyway is this normal for a low mileage car ? I have ordered replacments ensuring they are the cup type from renault the part number was:-
8200718460 - orange a blue dot...cost about 100 each.. is this a relativley simple job to replace or better off taking it to a local garage.. renault wanted 250 quid for fitting:swear:

If you have the tools and knowledge then yes, it's a fairly straight forward job.

Both of my front ones have been replaced for the same reason. It's pretty common these days for springs to snap. Occasionally they have nasty consequences (my dads when, and took out his wheel/tyre at the same time)

Either the crappy roads are to blame or they don't make 'em like they used to!

i would of thought it would of has a greater effect on the handling.. was there a big difference after you replaced them ?

Both my front ones have been replaced for same reason I got low mileage second hand ones though, only cost me 30quid and fitting cost me about 80quid from a Renault specialist!

I paid 100 for all springs changed from a Renault specialist so £250 is way too much.

Personally wouldn't do it my self. But if you know what your doing and have the tools then try ut

I didn't drive mine with a broken one so can't comment. One had been replaced when I bought it and the other I changed as soon as it snapped (avoided driving as I've seen what can happen!)

I didn't notice that mine had even snapped! When changed i didn't notice any difference lol!

Where was your's snapped? Mine was right at the top, maybe 1/4 - 1/2 a coil. Mine just sat ever so slightly lower on that side.

i would of thought that the handling would seriously be impaired...!! mine are sheread at the bottom on both inside the plastic housing...

Same here but right at the bottom, mine after I had inspected it, it was ever so slightly lower as well, like a few mil, never noticed before until I had my MOT :worried:

You've done a wrongen there.

Firstly, why didn't you get some second hand springs? I got some R27 springs sitting in the box behind me.

Secondly, if you're changing springs, why not think about some H&R's and lower the car? A full set will cost you about £250 fitted anyway. Would have massively improved the look.

Was tht last comment directed at me ? I have just checked the springs again and they have a blue and orange dot. I take it that means they are cup springs. I want to keep the car stock hence why I chose these. Is the eibachs a lot better ?

Ive got a set of cup springs, pm me if your interested as I want to shift them on as there taking up room in my garage.

Need to factor in if second hand springs are worth it don't want to be in a situation that they shear again ...has anyone else fitted used springs ?

When you factor in that the fitting costs almost as much as the springs themselves (new), then why fit second hand ones and risk them shearing again? The money you saved buying second hand will be less than the cost of a new set and fitting again.

i would personally get some lowering springs on there has the coils are thicker

managed to get original cup springs from renault this am. They are being fiited as we speak
i guess as they are like for like I dont need to adjust them for cup settings ?

Nothing that you can adjust, just one out, one in.

Did Renault have them in stock (rare if they did), or have you ordered them in?
