Exhaust carnage - which direction should i go ?

Brief history: Had the 200 a month - had a leak from manifold (Flexi's ?). Renewed both with new ones yesterday. Was ok when i collected and on the run home. This morning deffo leaking somewhere again. If a new weld has a hole in it, or it was something else we missed etc.....at this point i dont know / cant see. Point being i now don't want to continue spunking money on the standard manifold.

1/ I'm not really after extra horsepower (As such) - although of course that wouldn't be missed as a bi-product. What id like is a "better" manifold - that's not prone to cracking, preferably made from Stainless steel and something i can "fit and forget. Is there anything other decent - thats not £600 like the K-Tec........?

2/ Can i retain cat / cats with both Lambda's in place so i get no MOT / dash light issues ?

3/ Are uprated engine mounts a good insurance at this point regardless of anything else........?

I understand fitting a non-genuine manifold will likely mean it will need to be re-mapped, and so it seems i might be best to also get a cat-back system at the same time....and then get them mapped together. So i'll likely be getting a Piper / Scorpion resonated system to mate to whatever manifold i buy and fit.

Suggestions, links to manifolds etc, advice, previous experiences all welcome as i'd like to do this all in one hit and not have to revisit whats already been expensive, and is about to get worse on a whole new level.

Cheers Guys.

Get a toyo manifold and keep the second cat in. I think it'll still be legal. May be worth getting some better engine mounts in there too.

You'll have a little flat spot but I can't see it being worse than normal.

Is this the one:

Is this the same part only cheaper ?

This is the link to the Toyosports manifold I have in my ebay basket 'just in case' http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190734792388 the seller is toyosports so I imagine it is the real deal...

I imagine it's best to get an exhaust as well as the manifold if you intend to get a remap - you'll get the most out of it then.

The mounts are cheap and from what I've read, relatively easy/cheap to fit so may as well do it. I'll be doing mine in the very near future.

at those prices its really a no brainer not fitting one if the flexi break....

Superb thanks.

Wheres the best place for engine mounts ?

I'd go powerflex.

Others may have better options for you depending on daily use though.

Perfect - and where is best place to get them from ?

My daily / general use is pretty gentle driving. Anything uprated would be an improvement. I dont need "race" anything...i think !

Cool - cheers.

They also sell this "kit". Is the additional torque arm bush not needed ?

What sort of hours / labour is required for a garage to fit these.........

Yeah I wouldn't recommend fitting this one - PFF60-821 UPPER ENGINE MOUNT INSERT http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clio-3-Sp...307432?hash=item2a3f0aee68:g:M~EAAOSwBvNTqGjf

Adds far too much vibration for daily driving and doesn't seem to make much difference, if any at all, to the feel of the car once you've fitted the other 2 anyway.

Labour time to fit upper and lower should be about an hour. The top engine mount is much easier than the lower, quite an easy DIY job if you fancied it.

Thanks CallorFold. And everyone so far infact..... :jase2:

So Toyo manifold, upper and lower engine-mount poly bushes and a Scorpion resonated system.

I should then be able to have one of the cats remaining (rear ?) and will have no issues with dash warning lights etc.

Sound plausible ?

£180 for manifold.
£420 for system.
£250 for removing manifold / system and fitting new (Got an idea after manifold removal this week)
£55 for bushes.
£50 for fitting bushes.
£250 for a remap.

£1'205.00.....anything i've missed ? [Do i need a de-cat pipe ?]

Sounds like a good dailying setup you have there all together.

makes you wonder why the k-tec one is so expensive.

Doesnt look a whole load more beefy / supported / gusseted does it..........

*****So if im going Toyo manifold and Scorpion system do i need a de-cat pipe at the front, or does the Scorpion system take up the gap where the stock pre-cat lives ?

The toyo manifold is a decat manifold, so there won't be a precat. I'm assuming the scorpion is a catback so you could use a decat pipe to get rid of the second cat if you wanted.

Cheers. Got it.

I want to keep second cat so that engine management lights etc arent flashing away, and for MOT purposes.

No de-cat pipe needed then if thats to do-away with second cat, not the first.

Just to make things a little more confusing... you could go for a sports cat.... although they're usually quite pricey I think (£200-300)
