engine management light

hello people I need some opinions. I took the car to the dealer for the engine management light would come on flashing for 10secs and then go off. They told me it's a misfire and they'd have to reprogram the injector to sort it out. they quoted me £160!!! Can I do it somewhere cheaper? Thanks

If your not using 98/99 fuel then this can also be your problem, If you are then its the injector but i didnt think it was that expensive, a friend of mine quoted me £50 for new one. If your not using super unleaded then get some in your tank and it might clear up.

if its a "mis-fire" it can also be an electrical issue

you need someone with an obd2 scanner to read the fault code

as for using lower octane fuel - the ecu adapts to that - thats why it has a knock sensor - and it shouldnt effect the normal day to day running of the engine

it's the exhaust fumes. The lambda is reading weird so the car thinks it's going faulty.
I get this too but only when it is really hot outside (22+) and I'm stuck in traffic. sonetimes it comes on and clears when you start driving or it flashes on and off in literally a few seconds but the car doesnt behave any differently to normal.
google search it. A few people have had the same issue. I've seen mine twice.
Worry if it stays on.

Have you only seen yours flash when it's really hot and your stuck in congestion?

it can be the fuel.

Mine started flashing up for ten seconds at a time. I took it to the garage who ran diagnostics and came back with a print out saying it was an intermittent fault, a mis-fire on cylinder one. either caused by the little black block which bolts on above spark plug one (cnt remember the name now) or by using lower octane fuel, since then i have only filled up with super unleaded and ive not had a single problem, lets be honest at £2-3 extra a tank its hardly worth thinking about.

you mean the "pencil coil" for the spark plug

if a change of fuel octane causes a mis-fire its not the fuel but the lambda or ecu thats at fault - but they are set to adjust to lower fuel as in some countries it can vary

well it sorted mine out so its obviously doing something. I only follow what renualt specialist garage have told me and it worked a treat.
To OP, if it needs re programming then i dont think youve got much choice tbh.

To be honest I don't know if the people at the dealers know what they are talking about. I'm saying that because I took the car to the Enfield dealer for exactly the same issue(flashing management light) and they told me that it's the plugs to blame quoting me £180 to change them lol! So after a week I took the car to west London Renault and they said that it's the injector but when I told them about Renault Enfield's diagnosis they started waffling. I really don't know
I'm not using high octane fuel btw,and yes the light would come on while its warm and me being stuck in londons traffic most of the time. I'll give it a go with some good juice and see how it goes. The girl is due to service in a month btw so I'll probably book her with mark fish(he's closer to London than everybody else and I've read good stuff about him) so hopefully he'll be able to sort it out!
