Does anyone work in mobility?

Weird question I know, but basically we've got to have some adaptations made to my missus new car when it arrives. She had a stroke in December (she's only 28 ffs) and is just trying to get back behind the wheel.

Shes been for an assessment today and she's got to have 3 things

1 - an automatic (we've bought an ibiza with the dsg 'box picking it up sept 1st)
2 - a knob on the steering wheel
3 - secondary control remote control

We've been told upward of £1000 to have something like this fitted http://www.lodgesons.co.uk/products/Steering-Ball-for-R200.aspx

Does anyone work in this industry? Can it be this much?!? I'll be making some enquiries tomorrow, but thought I'd ask on here first.

Sorry to hear this Chris not fair I know. But as you might know I had a acceident nearly 3 yr ago and I looked in to getting adaptions and the cost was horrendous so I'm not shocked at the price.
I'm going to get a disability car with all the adaptions done.

It amazes me how much they charge on these adaptations, it certainly seems like these companies are cashing in on the unfortunate people that need to use them.

Basically it's going to cost 10% of the cars purchase price to get it legal for her to drive, unbelievable!

Sorry to hear about your missus Chris, terrible thing to happen at a young age but hopfeully you'll all learn to live around the problems.

Car wise, I can't help I'm afraid. If I see anywhere on my travels that does it then I'll take the number down for you.

Thanks guys, she's getting better all the time and it's expected the adaptations won't be required forever. It's only whilst her right arm and hand are still weak.

She could wait another 3 - 6 months, and maybe not need them but she really wants to be driving again. She wants to get back to work in a few months and will need to be able to get there and back.

As you say mate these companies do seem to charge an excessive amount but her independence is priceless at the end of the day and will do wonders for her recovery.

Surly you will get an allowance?

Then you pay everything outside of that?
