Damp interior

hello

I have a damp 197. Water is clearly getting in somewhere but I can't find out where.

I have:
Cleaned all drains
Replaced door rubbers
Jet washed all gulleys
Sat inside car while jet washing but couldn't see anything dripping in.

The car has the panoramic sunroof which could be causing it? I can't see any drains for his and the headlining is bone dry.
Seems to be coming in around the doors, there is always a puddle once you open a door.

All water is in both footwell carpets and under the front seats.

Footwells generally seem to be the place water goes in these cars.

Try taking out any mats and putting paper towels/something absorbent there to see if it picks up any moisture. Then just try to follow it back up to where it comes from.

Not 197 / 200 related as-such. But i think i also have a slight water-leak on the boys Corsa; as i noticed some slight damp in the passenger footwell couple of days ago.

Is there anything more annoying and anything more difficult to diagnose and sort....... ?

Good luck Heppy.

Do you have wind deflectors fitted?

These seem to let water down the front edge near the mirror, I've had a damp speaker before after jet washing and I don't have a sunroof.

Electrical fault on my BMW is by far my most annoying fault to find lol

Please let my suggestions be the answer to your problems.

I had months and months of trying to find and fix a passenger side water leak and the smell was unbearable!

After months of trying I found out what it was and it will upset you at how shit I reason it is to flood the car!

Whilst trouble shooting I took off the door card and water tested to see if I could see water getting in.... Long sort short, whilst I had to door card off I noticed that one of the wee plastic 'pop rivets' around the speaker region was snapped in half. This would mean it wasn't making a ticket seal with the metal door frame when it was pushed back on. Once replaced I haven't had an issue since (and it never stops raining here!)

Just definitely worth checking all the rivets' on the back of the door card and make sure they're all intact. I had so much anger and hassle with mine and really made me hate the car at the time, hopefully this is your problem to and you can fix it. It's something you wouldn't think of!

Here my thread for the troubleshooting I did: http://clio197.net/threads/water-leak-passenger-door.55909/

Good luck!

Many thanks for that.

I think I have worked it out. I jet washed the sunroof quite heavily and now the headliner is wet. So it's probably the sunroof.

My plan is to strip the interior out of the car, take the headliner out and then reseal the sunroof.

Dry the interior carpets and reassemble

Fingers crossed - let us know how you’ve got on!

My sister roof was leaking on my old Clio...annoying..hope you get to the bottom of it...

Really hope that's it. I was sooo angry with it for months lol.

For the water, dampness and smell I rented a rug doctor from B&Q and it made the job a dream and done a great job (also did the house carpets while I was at it lol).

Just left all doors open and had a small electric heat fan blowing on and under the carpets Nd rotated every now and again to get it all dry

Stripped the interior out and the car is soaked, literally full of water.

Headliner out you can see the big sunroof is bonded into place like a windscreen so I doubt this is the leak.

Each corner has a drain pipe, 2 rears drain into the wheel arches and then 2 fronts run down the A pillars.
2 rears were blocked solid and the 2 fronts have pulled out of the drain holes and so drain everything into the footwells.
I actually can't believe how crap these French cars are. This is a really stupid problem to have and one that potentially could ruin a car.

So I now need to dry the huge amounts of foam, carpet and interior.

All rubber hoses are clear although I will need to extend the front 2 so they don't do the same again.

But fingers crossed I have worked it out.

Panoramic roof leaks through the sealant in one corner. Great. I've cut a groove out and used silicone to reseal it. Fingers crossed but after that it's going to need an engineer to come out and rebond the full panel.

Really really not happy with this Clio.

Clio is all fixed. What a mission. The main issue being the panoramic sunroof.

All interior stripped including headliner to find the 4 drain pipes.
All pipes blocked, now clear.
All drains now vent onto the floor, outside the car.
Sunroof was also dripping, now resealed with silicone.
Interior all dried and refitted.
Everything cleaned.

Job done.
