Conti sport contact 3s on damp roads

I'm really not liking these tyres on damp roads, I never push the car in the wet but I would expect them to perform nearly as well on damp roads as dry roads, unless its just the low temperatures that are ruining the grip levels.

Anyone else have problems with the SC3's?

if the temperature is below 7c it will have a dramatic effect on the tyres performance and grip

the rs2 i have......the 197 can feel extremely light when cornering when its damp :innocent:

I never noticed any difference with my old car (Fiesta Zetec-S) on michelin pilot exalto 2's which was by no means a poor handling car, would corner almost as fast as the clio.

But perhaps the 197 just gives tyres a harder time. I can see the appeal of winter tyres now

You're always gonna lose a lot of grip in the wet, I've always seen the SC3s classed as summer tyres so as Si says the temperature isn't going to help.

Thats a less known fact, and spot on! The CS3s will also wear faster in colder conditions, as the rubber is tougher.

Strictly speaking, we should all be running winter tyres from now until March(ish), or when temps regularly go above 7c.

There was a feature in Evo mag about winter tyres, and outperformed all regular tyres (CS3s were on test too) in conditions like were getting now, eg Damp, cold but no frost as such.

I've considered it, but its an expense I can do without right now.

only way to get more grip in the cold and damp to to get winter tyres, good choice Steven200 !! I am now on dunlop m3's but will get something different for the next season, this is the third season of them in my 197 and I'll just probably burn the hell out of them in the early spring and then ditch'em, thats the plan

I noticed a while back that my Sport Contact 3's give up easy in damp conditions. Even second gear at high revs the tyre struggle for grip and if you are sharp with the clutch you will get a little spin when changing in to third too!

It does frustrate me than you can't give it full throttle in 1st, I find the wheels just start spinning which means I'll probably have to wait until April to enjoy my car again!
