Hi guys, I'm new to the forum so your help is greatly appreciated.

Currently I'm looking at buying a 2007 Clio 197 F1 with 18,000miles. I know with the service intervals that it is suggested that at 5 years or 72K you should have the belts done. Does anyone think I could get away without it or wouldI be best to do it, keeping in mind that it will cost the guys of £800 to do the belts and water pump.

Also is there anything else I should really be looking out for?

Many thanks,
John

You can get it done a lot cheaper than that from one of the specialists, ~ £500...

The 200 interval is 6 Years and all the parts are the same. So whilst it's wise to have it done on time, going a few months over shouldn't really make much difference. But, if you have the money to get it done on time then you may as well.

Thanks for getting back to me. See thats the problem, as with everyone moneys kinda tight at the moment so trying to save every penny possible.

Unfortunately I'm in Northern Ireland so were kinda limited to dealerships or back street garages, I'm not sure there are any specialists over here and if I was to put the car on the boat to bring it over to the mainland I may as well just spend the money and go to a dealership.

I guess its just one of those things that it has to be done at some point and I would just be putting off the evil day.

Ah, didn't realise you were over there. :worried:

You could always come over and combine the service with a Remap or some other work? But then again, that's yet more money hahaha!!! Technically my Cambelt is overdue a change as she was 5 in May, it's on my to do list just as soon as I've got the funds. Damn you Christmas!!!

Mines overdue too, 5 years was up in October. I'm holding out until the new year (unless I decide to sell up, then i'll get it done sooner)

Lol just been quoted £1800 for this service by a renault dealer in Chester.

1800!! I got mine done through renault but because they didn't do it when I bought it off them so they were paying, they wrote cam belt service £299 on a ticket that I seen so guessing that's what it costs internally! So 1800 is crazy

Ok so after a bit of calling around I've managed to get the price down to 950 from a Renault dealer. although this isn't for nothing, its a hell of a lot cheaper than the original £1800 I was quoted.
